Question about the shutter mechanism in the Zeiss Ikon camera. If I lock the shutter open for hours on the bulb setting, is any power drawn from the battery? Will I come back to a dead battery?

there are some electromechanical shutters that draw power while open, some that don't (my Nikon FE2, EOS 600 series, 3, 1V). Just want to know which this is.

Sounds like a question best answered by Zeiss. Why don't you contact them?It is not addressed in the camera's manual.

My guess is, it does require power to release the shutter and keeping it open.

Still, it is easy enough for any owner to find out. Turn the dial to "B", cock the shutter and take out the batteries. Press the shutter button. Chances are it won't even fire.

Email sent to Zeiss. And yes, with no battery it seems to be completely dead. Open the shutter on B, remove the battery, and the shutter closes. Pity.

Dear Mr. xxxxxx,

thanks for your request.
Yes, the shutter of the Zeiss Ikon camera needs electric power from the battery when in "bulb" mode.

Well, it is difficult to estimate how long an exposure can be until the battery gives up. This depends from the condition of the battery and temperature. Under good conditions with a brand new battery, serveral hours should be possible.
