I was checking the focus of 75mm Summarit on ZI. When looking at the ground glass at film port and the viewfinder many, many, many times during the process i realized that the ZI does indeed have accurate enough 75mm framelines... See the pic, i can´t explain it
(At close focus distance it´s better to use 85mm framelines.)

Brilliant detective work.
But, sad. I've just lost my reason for not coveting a 75mm lens. Now I have one more complaint against the cruel universe.

Yeah, me too. My one reason not to get a 75 Lux is gone now! Shame on you!

OK, let me see if I understand this: you are saying that if my eye follows the intersection of the vertical & horizontal RF lines for 50mm, it forms a "box" that will be useful for 75mm lenses?
That is cool!

You betcha.
After I saw that, I ran upstairs to grab the camera and see if they had done a similar trick with 90mm/135mm. No such luck.

I thought that the 50/75 combo couldn´t be just a coincidence, but if it wasn´t then they would have used the same trick with other focal lengths as well? I didn´t think of that before 1ScrewLoose´s comment, as i was only interested in 50/75 thing...

A very cool trick! I love using the 75 FL, and have gotten used to guesstimating on the ZI, but this will make it even easier. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm going to go check it against my CV 75 external VF for the fun of it...

It's simply the extension of the 2x3 format of 35mm.
24x36 is a 2 to 3 ratio.
50mm x 75mm is a 2 to 3 ratio; that is, the 75mm focal length "sees" 2/3 of the field of the 50mm lens.

Old thread I know, but do 75mm lenses bring up 50mm framelines on the ZI or 85...or do you have to use the frame selector to use the 75mm trick?

The old summicron I had for a while brought up 50mm framelines. I think the other Leicas must too, because those frames are always paired on Leica bodies.
A CV 75 on the other hand can be mated with any adapter you like.

FYI, this also works with the Leica 50mm frame lines ... I k ow most have the 75mm frame lines, but I have an a la carte M7 without the 75mm frame line. Didn't have any desire for 75mm until I got a Summarit that is. Great lens!
