ZI SW with lenses picture

While the M8 has been getting LOTS of press, figured I would share what I found while poking around the best digital site on web (IMHO, www.dpreview.com).

This is the first real photo I've seen of it.

If I owned a ZI, the SW would be my second camera body (like my Bessa L or T are for me now).

When everyone pointed out how useless this camera was I totally disagreed. After all, there was no M-mount camera intended for wideangles.
But now, with the launch of the new Cosina, I can't help thinking I'd rather go for a wide-angle camera that gives me the option of focusing w a rangefinder if I needed to. Seems like Mr K is having his cake AND eating, wise man, making products for Zeiss, and arguably undercutting them with a more versatile product.

I'm sticking with my Bessa Ls or Ts. They are already here and work fine. Not liking to carry tons of lenses with me I am not jumping on the R4, but that is me.

I wondered about the point of this camera as I did the Bessa L but then I saw the drawing of the viewfinder frames for the new CV R4. Looking at the tiny frame for a 35 mm lens, brought thoughts to me of problems with framing accuracy and sloping horizons as I'd find such a tiny frame in a large viewfinder very difficult to use with a (mildly) wideangle lens. Whilst the R4 viewfinder is an interesting idea, I just have this nagging thought that it's trying too hard to achieve the impossible and that auxiliary brightline finders are perhaps the most practical way forward at the very wideangle end. This is of course, where the SW/L come in. My opinion only though, ready to be shot to pieces...!

- Zeiss and Cosina made a mistake by not having the brand symbol in blue on the ordinary Zeiss Ikon. Like the red dot on the Leica cameras, the Zeiss logo should have been blue.

Now we see how good a blue Zeiss-logo looks on a camera.... Very elegant!

On the original Zeiss Ikon cameras, it helps on looks to put on the viewfinder with the bright blue Zeiss logo. As shown attached.

It certainly does. I never understood why they didn't as I felt it made a statement. Click here for another picture of the Zeiss SW cameras featuring the blue logo. Does this mean the regular Zeiss will get them as well? Was the "engraved" logo just for the initial limited edition production run?

Lots of excitement in CV forum over R4. I prefer the ZI SW - just wondering when Tony Rose will have it available. I like the blue logo also!
