Very likely. "shphoto-gmbh", also selling under the name "arsenall", is one of the most expensive sellers of rangefinder gear that I know. They have a huge choice of new and old items, and sometimes very rare stuff like the 50/1.1 Zunow in M-mount or a black SP with motor drive... Their communications style is quite shortspoken, for not saying discourteous. I would just buy there for an item that is really not available somewhere else.

Look closely at the lens diagram the lens itself is sitting on. That is NOT the Sonnar lens drawing... interesting.
Sounds a bit fishy to me.

I really wanted one of these, but I got my Canon 50/1.2 and it satisfied my need for an ultra-fast lens. However, i do start my new job next week, and its a nice upgrade in pay, so perhaps I'll get the urge to consolidate my 50/2Z M and Canon 50/1.2 into the 50/1.5 ZM...

Now that the Sonnar is coming out perhaps it's a good time to remind everyone what a good lens the Planar 50 ZM is. If one has to have the Sonnar for its speed and, well, Sonnar-like signature, that's fine, but the Planar is a trully excellent lens.

As for shphoto.de, I had no clue they are the same with arsenall. There can be no question, if you buy from arsenall you have to pay through your nose. But the shphoto website does have a few fair deals - I 've bought from them a couple of times some "special price" lenses and the prices were not astronomic, while I also had to appreciate that they were making the effort to speak in English.
N.B. Zeiss fans - they still have a few silver ZIs (limited edition) in lesser price that what they usually go for.
PS I have no relation with shphoto, arsenall etc other than that I gave them money for glass.

Yes, Nikon grabbed onto those German Patent rights following WWII and used the Zeiss lens designs to develop their post war lenses. I believe the Canon 50/1.5 is the last lens designed for Canon by Nippon Kogaku (did I kill the spelling?). They offered briefly a 50/1.5 for the Nikon RF cameras, but quickly redesigned it with a max ap of 1.4 claiming the lead in the speed wars. Chronologically the Nikkor 50/2 came before the 50/1.4 I think, and yes, is a very true Sonnar clone.

I have the last two of that above list. I may one day get a vintage Canon 50/1.5 because it is made by Canon or a Heliar 50/3.5 for its sharpness.
