Hi,

I ran a roll with my 50mm planar today. They're not great pictures but I found that the lens is amazingly sharp.

I also made similar test shots with my old (and no longer own) 75mm lux. Turns out the bokeh of the 75 lux is generally better, but the bokeh of the 50 planar is not bad, especially at the closest focus (0.7m).

These are all crappy lens test and is just for fun. Enjoy.

Also, if you like my pictures, can you visit my blog too? I just added a ClustrMap on my blog and I need your help to fill up my map! It's silly but everytime you click on my blog, a dot will be added to the map indicating where you're from. Kinda cool.

Thx.

One point to note is that I just added two more light bulbs in my apartment so the light in the 75 lux pics was much softer than the one in the 50 planar.

Thanks for the Planar shots- I just ordered the same lens from Tony Rose today, in fact.

BTW- what's with the wine and toilet paper!? Comment on the wine? :p

The wine is good.

I just randomly pick something to photographs when I got the 75 lux. Otherwise I won't use Delta 3200 because that was the only film that I had at the time.

I like the toilet paper. They were originally test shots for myself and toilet paper allows me to see details in the highlights.

I'm a bit dissapointed with the out of focus area too. I'll use this lens more to comment on it.

Thanks for posting this xabi, I have a Planar myself and I am very, very pleased with it. I like the bokeh, although I know some people find it harsh(-er) esp. compared to some Leica lenses as the 75 lux. However when I used the Planar interchanging it with my (old) Summilux 50 I had problem telling which was which just looking at the printed copies. But then I have read in this forum that the 'lux 75 is a class apart.

One thing I am not so sure about is the wine - I prefer Old World juice myself. Guess that makes me a wine snob, but there you are :)

I'm not a wine expert. I drink australian wine mainly because it's good and cheap! We should start a wine recommendation thread later!

Yeah, comparing the bokeh of 50 planar and 75 lux is not fair. As I said, this test shots are just for fun.

And believe it or not, I just added 2 100W light bulbs in my living room (I used only a 60W when i took the 75 lux pics), and the books on my bookshelf looks much glossier.

This thread is just for fun so I hope it won't become a Planar vs Summicron thread.

The Planar is definitely on my "want to have" list. It is right up there with the Summicron, Summilux, Nikkor 1.4, ... ... :D

No worries Xabi, for my part I enjoyed the comparison, I make such comparisons myself anyway (that's when I realised I couldn't tell apart the Planar from the Summilux 50). Perhaps I will post some examples in my gallery (for the time being I have some photos, in no particular order in flickr). I am not an expert, I just enjoy lenses as any other person here but I have to say that I find it easier to discern lenses (if I do, that is) from their bokeh rather than anything else. I really, really want an old Summicron lens but that's not because I am not ecstatic with the performance of the Planar.

Hey guys,

I've deleted the flickr set with my sample pics. I am reposting three of my pics here for those who are interested in the future.
