I recently purchased the C Biogon 4,5/21 mm ZM to use with Leica MP.
I've fit the lens to camera several times, and have placed the optional Rectangular lens shade 21/25mm on the lens. what I find is imprecise alignment of the lens shade relative to the camera body, such that the lens shade is 'canted' down to the left if viewing the front of the lens along the focal length axis.
If the lens shade were Round, i'd surely not notice this, being Rectangular, it is obvious.
I suspect that the Zeiss lens shade, and the ZM lens, are precisely compatible in the mount, and that the ZM mount precisely fits the IKON, and that it is the M mount on the Leica that is not fully compatible with the ZM.
Perhaps I do not need to use the lens shade most of the time, and in use, this misalignment does not matter, nor, in use, I should not be viewing the front of the camera anyway,
any comments? suggestions?

Hello Rodney,
Are you sure that you locked the shade in place properly?
I do not know the lens and the shade, but on some other lenses I own, there's some resistance at some point and you have to move the shade a bit further in order to lock it in place.

Best regards,
Uwe

It should be entirely compatible. Do you have another rectangular hooded lens (of any manufacturer)? If so is it straight or crooked?

AFAIK, there is absolutely no difference between the way ZM lenses and Leica lenses fit on either a Leica or a Zeiss Ikon, so make sure you have fit the shade correctly, otherwise it should be a faulty shade, if anything.
Besides that, I recommend that you try the round 25/28 ZM shade for the C Biogon - it shades ok and intrudes less in the vf, without causing any vignetting.
