I recently bought a ZM 21mm, and was impressed with it's build quality. Thinking of maybe getting a ZM 50mm f2. I paid "full street price" for the 21mm. Have any of you dealt with a "reliable" grey market ZM dealer?
Thanks

Thanks Jorge. I just went there and they don't have the 50mm. I wish I had gone there before I bought my 21mm. I paid about $300 too much for mine.

Popflash has the ZM 50 f2.0 for $600 on the site. I just looked at it there.

Also you have you thought about waiting for the ZM 50/1.5? I think a lot of people here are pretty excited about that lens. It's going to be here in the U.S. very soon if it isn't already.

Thanks Guys. I went for the 50mm f1.5. I will be using with the M8, and figured I needed at least one super fast lens (albeit a bit long one at 1.33 crop). I also ordered from him the 28mm f2.8 ZM and 35mm f2 ZM and 25/28 shade and 35/50 shade. My lens line up for the M8 is now as follows:
21mm f2.8 ZM
24mm Leica ASPH
28mm f2.8 ZM
35mm f2 ZM
50mm f1.5 ZM
For ultra wide stuff, I already have a 15mm CV
For "lightweight" travel I also have a CV 21mm f4, and 35mm f2.5, neither of which I can vouch as to what kind of image quality will result on the M8
Thanks again for the advice

Wow, that was a big purchase, and results in an impressively complete lineup of fine lenses! You'll have a lot of fun over the next months getting familiar with them.

Just got an email concerning the 85/2 from Zeiss-
"Concerning the delivery of Sonnar T* 2/85 ZM I can say, that the planned availability at our distribution partner will be by December of this year."
So basically, we'll see it when we see it. Fine by me. I'd much rather they delay shipment until they're happy with the finished construction than have them rush to production.

Hi Doug:
Yes I am anxious to see the Postman come!! Coming Priority mail from California to NJ so will possibly arrive Tuesday. The folks at Popflash were extremely nice. There was a foul up with my credit card, so Josh called me to let me know and I settled the mix up. He also told me over the phone that the 35/50 hood would not fit the 50mm f1.5; so I also ordered the proper hood for that lens. Very nice people to deal with!
When I mentioned that I decided to purchase from them because of the good reports from the folks here on this forum, he said shipping was free for forum members! Another nice touch.
Thanks again to all the kind folks here.

Dave glad to hear you had a good experience with popflash (as many of us here have too). Just curious to know about one of your buying decisions; the 24mm Elmarit. Do you like this lens in particular? Zeiss have an apparently good alternative...

Hi Peter:
Part of my lens choices had to do with externaal view finders I already had.
The CV 15mm will be used with a CV 21mm finder
The 21mm lenses will be used with a CV 28mm finder
The 24mm Leica lens will bring up the proper frame lines on the M8, and will probably be my "walk around" lens. I bought it used, so it does not have the 6 bit coding. My understanding is that the 25mm ZM brings up the 28mm frame lines, a big disadvantage on the M8.
Of course the 28, 35, and 50mm lenses will bring up the proper frame lines on the M8.
I have serious reservations as to how the CV 15mm will perform on the M8. I use DXo Optics software with my 1DsII and wide Canon zooms. It is marvelous software. I would hope DXO would jump on the opportunity for new modules for the M8 and various popular 2nd party lenses (such as the CV 15mm where vignetting will surely be a big concern).
I really enjoy this forum (I'm new), and the kind people here.
Very best

Thanks Dave I didn't know about that issue with the 25mm and the M8. I use the Elmarit 24mm and I can assure you that you will love the lens! Enjoy your new kit when it arrives!

Thank you Peter. Over on Sean Reid's site he compares the Leica 24mm and ZM 25mm and states the ZM 25 brings up the 28mm frames. I have read nothing but rave reviews of the 24 ASPH Elmarit.
Thanks for your good wishes.

Ah, OK. I don't have any interest in digital cameras so I generally don't read threads concerned with them.
I'm waiting for the M9 (an M7 with the M8 metal shutter that goes up to 1/4000s).

Grey/Gray market?
Grey/Gray market?
I understand that Zeiss is trying to control the grey/gray (?) marketnow that they have taken over sales and distribution. Some dealers have complained about this already.
Can anyone here please explain to me what grey/gray market really is? Dealers buying from the manufacturer's sales channels but selling at a discount? Dealers parallel importing from other countries with lower market prices?
Do you know what meaning this term covers excactly?
Thanks!

What is a 'gray market dealer', anyway?? - Do you have a free market over there in the United States or not? Or have you adopted some sort of Sovjet system?
Please enlighten me!
