Zorki 1 and Kontur - speed dial too high?

Damn! I bought the Kontur viewfinder especially for use on my Zorki 1, but my first film with it had some half-exposed shots. The second curtain must have caught up with the first curtain halfway it's travel. I thought there may be something wrong with the curtain tension or some debris in the curtain sliders, but found none of that. Looking closer, the base of the viewfinder is slightly touching the speed dial. When releasing the shutter, the dial winds together with the first curtain, and it must be slowed down by friction with the viewfinder.

What can I do about this? Only a fraction of a millimeter of more space between the dial and the viewfinder base is required... :bang: I see no obvious mechanical fix.

filing a little bit of either one of the two... ouch!
Or, you could raise the accessory foot of the Zorki 1 a little with some paper shims.

Of course! how obvious. The shoe even unscrews from the outside, so nothing to dismantle...

Did it in 5 minutes, and seems to give enough space for the dial to rotate. Still can't lift the dial to change the setting when the viewfinder is on, but that shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks!

I was faced with this with the FED-1, but it clearly should not happen. The shutter dial should be flush with the top deck, obviously what Barnack would have intended in the first place. The shutter dial is on a screw thread which is more coarse than you would expect. I loosened the grub screw in the dial, removed the dial and then screwed it down one more turn than it was before. That is enough to sit more elegantly, be clear of the finder, and still not foul the top deck.

It never dawned on me to shim under the shoe.........

I tried that, but it won't take the whole extra turn to end up in the marked position again.
