it seems that the takeup spool spindle in my Zorki 1C (I believe it's a C) is of the type that works by friction. the friction spring is so hard that I can't force down the spool at all.
see picture for spindle and spool .....

anybody has this type of spindle and had it actually working at all?

any suggestions?

I'm planning to get a spare fork-style spindle and put it on my camera. I simply don't believe the friction type is going to work ....

Hi, I have several cameras with friction-fit spools and they all work without a problem. That spool you have shown does not look to me like it's the right one, however. Before you decide it won't work, make sure you have the right spool. If you look at the "drum" that the spool fits on, you can see some metal strips that stick out a little. These look to me as if they are sticking out too far, you could try bending them back in very slightly. They are what is responsible for the friction. The spring you see in the photos is responsible for the friction of the slipping clutch and has nothing to do with the spool fitting or not.

P.S. your photos are much larger than needed, smaller ones would have been easier to view.

P.P.S. Welcome to RFF!

thanks a lot wolves3012,

finally I'm getting somewhere --- this spool thing wasted a entire roll of film for me 🙁

could you please show a pic of your spool (the inside) ? so I could know what to look for ...
