Hi guys,

Am in the middle of (botching) a Z4 CLA, and could do with some help: the main sticking point is the second shutter release arm. Having taken it out, cleaned and delicately lubed it, I just cannot get it to sit back in its original place. It's incredibly fiddly to get back in and the furthest it down it will go is about 1mm above the spacing ring it should be sitting on.

How how how how can i get it to go down completely? I've been trying for ages, and am desperate to get the poor camera back together.:bang:

Any tips?

Or, am I being an idiot? Is that the furthest down it's meant to sit? If so, have I completely botched the CLA, because the second shutter no longer fires ...

Yours stupidly,

Tim

Tim,

The answer is, it's not supposed to sit flush with the top plate. There's a small spring that pushes it inwards and downwards. It's held up against the large bottom spring until you press the shutter button, then it should sit lower as the button is held. Yes, it is fiddly to put back in, you have to put it in absolutely square-on or it won't pass through the lower part of the crate.

Have a look under the bottom spring under the shutter crate: when the shutter button is pressed (and held), you should see the lower part of the rod poking through as well. Check carefully that the small spring on top of the curtain release is re-seated correctly, it *must* press the curved part inwards and downwards to work.

When you say the second curtain no longer fires, do you mean it won't close? If so, have you re-installed the slow-speed mechanism yet? It can't close until that is installed correctly.

By the way, I don't know if you're using it but there is a sticky thread on CLA-ing the Zorki 4/4K at the top of this sub-forum.

Let us know how it goes!

Wolves, thank you! Yes, that'll be it: no slow-speed mechanism. I've been using the sticky thread all the way through, but panicked at this point because of the second shutter. think I've seated the arm correctly, but I'll find out when the slow speed mechanism goes back on.....

Cheers,

Tim
