This Zorki 4 does not have film take up spool, I got one off ebay. However, the friction of take -up spool is too lose and after few frames film will spring off the take up spool, make it difficult to wind. How to adjust take up spool? or how to fix it.

The Zorki 4 has a different design of takeup spool from that of a Leica or Canon. Instead of being held in place by friction with the winding spindle, they are held by the pointed slots that run along the spindle. Still, a Leica spool will fit. If you don't want to look for another spool, I would suggest running a thin strip of duct tape along the length of the spindle to slightly increase its diameter.

Cheers,
Dez

Are you sure that you have a Zorki spool? Spools for Fed cameras rely on a friction fit on the spindle, whereas Zorki spools do not.

The take up spool I bought is from Ukraine It says fit Zorki 4, how they set the friction? if too much you will have trouble to rewind the film, if too little you will have trouble to advance the film

How Zorki 4 hold the take up spool? are there two small stud like inside the spool to fall into the slot on the drum? I am trying to figure out how Zorki 4 winding mechanism works
1. when winding film there must some mechanism to move the spool on the drum. if not through friction, then through the stud inside the take up spool and the slots on the mid section of the drum?
2. when rewind film, the spool should be free move otherwise it will difficult to rewind.

Here's how it works:
Under the winder-knob is a gear that drives a gear-train to the film sprocket. Also, the winder-knob turns the centre of the spool-drum but not directly. In between is a clutch that can slip. When you are in "advance" mode, winding the knob drives 8 teeth on the sprocket (1 full turn), which is a frame's worth of film. What passes over the sprocket gets wrapped around the spool, pulled via the slipping clutch.

In "rewind" mode, the sprocket-drive is disconnected, so the sprocket becomes free to turn. The spool-drive is not disconnected, however. When you rewind, the slipping clutch allows the film to pull off the spool but keeps it under tension.

On the Zorki 4, you can see the slipping part when you remove the spool. There's a drum (of sorts), below which is a spring and a silver screw-head. Turn the winder and you'll see the screw-head turn, no matter what. Hold on to the drum though and you can hold it still while winding. The four slots on that drum are what the spool grips against, to get its drive, using the pegs you've seen inside the spool.

Hope that explains it!

Thank you very much for your help. The take up spool I got off ebay does have two small stud-like or pegs inside the spool, however, the two little pegs do not engage with the four slots. Any one have a photo show the two little pegs inside the spool?

I don't think a photo will help, partly because it's not easy to photograph the inside of the spool clearly enough. The spools for a FED look very similar indeed but they will not work on a Zorki. The pegs inside are rivets holding the film-clip to the outside, so they are visible on other spools but the Zorki spools have slightly longer pegs. Essentially, the spool for the Zorki 4 should drop onto the drum quite easily but it should not be free to turn. If it is, you do not have the correct spool.
