I suppose it doesn't matter which camera ... anyone smoothed out a jagged film rail? There is a small burr sticking up on the bottom rail which has the potential (I am waiting for a take-up spool so haven't tested the camera yet) to damage the film as it is wound on or back.

The rest of the camera is in excellent condition, so God knows how this happened!

Ignore it is the simplest option, it will be outside the frame area?

Sisters nail file if it is easy to do, but be careful.

Hi,

probably a very fine sandpaper could take care of it... like 1000 or 800 (the number on the sandpaper).

But if it's on the film rail, it will probably be out of the frame - somewhere on perforation where the scratch wouldn't matter...

Thanks Ondrej - Have you seen this problem before? The camera must have been dropped while a previous owner was changing film - or its a quality control issue. If its the latter, then there should be no problem: the camera has been well cared for and well used, so if it didn't cause problems before, it shouldn't do for me.

An oilstone would be a good way to remove it if you need to. I've smoothed a slightly corroded rail on a FED 4 this way. You need to go gently and not remove more than is essential. If it's outside the frame area (likely) then I'd maybe only make sure any sharp edges are removed, just to stop any chance of tears etc.
