Zorki 4 vs FED 2 .....

Maybe this is a result of the "baseline" I keep hearing about, but I really notice a difference in magnification in the viewfinder between the Zorki 4 and FED 2. It seems almost 50% more magnification on the Zorki 4. Since I'll be using 50 mm lenses on both I'm curious which is actually closer to the final image on film.

I plan on test shooting both as soon as it stops raining!

The Z 4 is the easiest to dismantle of the FSU cameras I've had, so far.....

I like the range of shutter speeds, although the slows are way off.

I already see a project to add a modification to the advance knob on the Z4. I like the FED 2 knob much better.

I spruced up the Z4 with a new pebble leather skin, and touched up the black trim. I'll leave it chrome finish (for now anyway).

Actually, I think the FED 2 is easier than the Z4 to work on. The Mir (Z4 wo slow speeds) might come close to the FED 2. Z4's viewfinder is much brighter, however.

I wonder what you mean by "I'm curious which is actually closer to the final image on film". Viewfinder magnification does not have much to do with the negative size, which is 24x36mm whatever viewfinder you use and has the same size of objects in it whenever you use lenses of same focal length (independent of camera body and viewfinder)...

I was referring to accuracy of the viewfinder.

In SLR parlance it would be like is the viewfinder 100% of image or 92% of image. I understand the lens will determine image size, and that it will always be 24x 36 on film.

I guess I wasn't clear in my question.

The Fed 2 is also really easy to access, but I like the ease with which the top compartment comes off as a seperate unit straight up. The FED I've always got to slide in the diopter lever then line up everything else to position the top.

But the proofs in the pudding, or Tri X as it were.....

I haven't checked mine, but both might be greater than 100%. Especially since a few of the LTM lenses aren't quite 50mm but 53mm.
