Lionel over at photo.net was nice enough to send me his Zorki-4 for the cost of shipping. Here's my initial assessment:
Jupiter 8 looks good, but the aperture ring is off a bit (easy)
Slow speeds are worn off the dial (par for the course)
The curtains look good
The shutter is Fubar
-speeds can't be changed when shutter is cocked
(dial won't lift when there is tension on shutter mechanism)
-slow escapement runs out when cocking slow speeds resulting in
curtains that don't complete travel
The Rangefinder is Fubar
-vertical is way off
-the arm/wedge that should ride against the cam on the lens is
dead. Either it is very gummed up or the spring is broken.
Other than that, it's a really cool camera. I've spent some time looking over wolves' CLA article. This is going to keep me busy for a while. Worst case scenario: I have a J8 for my Fed + a Zorki paperweight.
