I would check the film first. Would you still be able to examine the leader of the film you loaded? If a tear mark is found on it , that should tell all. I would not immediately suspect mechanical problems until film loading issues have been resolved.

Jay,
When there is no film in the camera, moving the film advance level can be very smooth to quite some hesitating at times. The same situation persists with film loaded in the camera. The film is not torn and not scratched either.

hey, they're only Zorkis
Raid ~ Mine was somewhat the same way when it first arrived. Sort of "bumpy" and rough when winding on. After lubing and adjusting following the directions in the link above, it worked out noticeably smoother. It's still not easy as to wind as say newer Japanese RFs, my Minoltas or Canon SLR, but it is a smoother even tension, quite improved.raid said:When there is no film in the camera, moving the film advance level can be very smooth to quite some hesitating at times. I am inexperienced in camera maintenance/repair, and I may have to either use the camera as is, or find a person willing to CLA my camera for a fee.
