Hello, I just got my zorki 6 from a ukrainian seller on fleabay.

It came with Jupiter 8 lenses which are non standard and the seller even threw in a Industar 26M along with the set. But it seems there are a few problems with the jupiter 8, the focusing ring is very stiff, stuck with 30 year old USSR state brand grease. I am wondering if there is a way to clean and lube these beautiful lenses.

Also, I have noticed that the vertical adjust of the RF is on the front. A ring in front of it, kind of like the diopter adjustment on the later FEDs. When I set it to optimal adjustment, the "screw" portion of the RF adjust sticks out just a bit... so it seems loose!

Any suggestions?

Cosmetically and optically it's in excellent condition just as the seller described. But mechanically (with the exception of the shutter) it seems that everything's a bit stiff or loose (probably from the drying up of the ancient grease).

I have attached some pics for your viewing pleasure.

#1 indicates the problem area with the RF adjust, and #2 is the Jupiter 8. It has some kind of powerful look to it.... I love it! I just wish it would be a bit more "perfect."

(I'm considering sending it to Oleg.)

I have Zorki 6 and a Jupiter 8 - it's a marvellous combination! I sent mine to Oleg for a CLA and new blinds. I'd recommend you did the same - you'll never regret it! Have fun!

Thank you captainslack!

Mike, I've had 4 cameras CLA'd by Oleg and more are on the way. He really is a master and a very nice man. I see that some people are put off by increased Russian postage charges, but given the way he rejuvenates cameras, the cost is very low. Some of our American friends also report long postal delays, but I've found it only takes 7-8 days for cameras to reach him or return to the UK.

All the Best, Jocko

Dangit! I knew I should have sent the setup to Oleg. While trying to fix the Jupiter 8, I lost a few screws... Is there any kind soul with extra parts from a Jupiter 8 willing to help a soul in need?

Brian - I know EXACTLY how you feel - I usually manage to cut myself as well... This is not meant to be funny, but if no-one has the screws, Oleg could probably put it right; give him a go.

Yeah, I have the worst luck when I'm dealing with FSU gear. If I could buy some screws at a hardware shop, I'd definitely give it a go, but I'm not sure how the lens' focusing ring is held in place. It seems to be with a sharp point on the tiny screw with the brittle back :(

Speaking of battle scars from cameras, I got a blister from the film rewind mechanism of my Smena 8M. Cursed bakelight crapboxes!! I hope the film comes out alright though. It might be a bit off topic, but does getting a KMZ external rangefinder qualify to make my Smena 8M an uncoupled rangefinder? Heheh.
