A while ago I spoiled my zorki 6 by tightening the collar on the winder too tight. It's a left hand thread which I tightened when trying to remove it, stripped a couple of teeth of a gear.
After a period trying to get the thing off, I eventually took a saw to it and cut off the collar, winder surround and half the post. A Zenit donated it's winding gear and things were looking up...until I worked out that the ratchet stop on the gear train might have been damaged in the removal attempts. It certainly doesn't work like it should. The thing is, it could have moved and ....now that I look at it, I can't see how it works, it seems to work the wrong way.
The little tag is the end of a strip which is under cog Y. When wound on the cog Y turns CCW and pushes the tag into the gear X, locking it. When the winder is released, the tag moves away from gear X, releasing it, allowing it to 'unwind' between winds.
Anyone got the top off a zorki 5 or 6 who can see where this thing bites?
I've replaced these cogs, could the tag be from the other side of cog X?
I would call upon the Zenit, but the ratchet is quite different.

Have you notes or instructions for stripping the Zorki this far? Like is there only one lefty, are there any little springs that go ping into oblivion, etc. (i.e. nice think carpet)? Won't be back until Thursday, and wont have time this week end either... & my Zorki works... Why did you need to take it apart?

Ah, since posting, I was thinking about how this ratchet would work better on the other side of the cog. So I moved it to the other side and guess what.....it works fine
. Just shows what benefit would come of making detailed notes and a few digital images (I must do this next time....)
This camera was stripped (the last time) to try to smooth out the jerky shutter release. The button felt like it was binding on something, just couldn't use it like that.
If this camera proves itself in use, it is destined to get a black finish and a nice leather job, mmmm

Congrats
Could you please past the pics I might need them, not had a film through my 5 yet.
Wont it spoil resale value if you tart it up?

I've had the curtains out of this one, quite a strip and rebuild. I guess that it's an achievement that most of the smallest bits aren't in the carpet!
This example has a passable chrome top, made worse by my attempt lock up the gears to unscrew the collar by making a discrete hole in it....so, little value anyway.....

Sorry about the own goal, done that myself, best not to ask.
My 5 seems pristine (sorry again, not gloating) only got it on Saturday, it was missing a take up spool but came with a reloadable cassette. So I will try it out at the weekend. I might need your photos...

Good luck, I got a nice 5(a) as in my avatar, very very nice. My shelf queen, for a while anyway. Not sure about these bottom loaders though..

My first leica was IIf, had it for years it was really nice, this was when all film came with the full leitz leader and the film always just dropped in easier than an auto loader. So the bottom loading is easy if you can use scissors...
My 5 is good enough to be a shelf queen, I did detect your avtar was a 5, thill sugffering from Rubens old avtar and Stephanies, dont we have moderators on this forum?

Just got the top back on, that lever spring is a tricky one to get right!
Anyway, now there appears to be another problem, boy does this force a steep learning curve........

The wind is smooth and the shutter release is nice. The operation was a sort of success, but it now displays a fault that I've seen on a few Feds, where it skips frames. Maybe this is good for a new thread....
