The bottom plate on my Zorki C is not as snug as it should be and is therefore loose and moves, any suggestions how I can cure this.

If I remember correctly, the Zorki-C bottom plate is pretty near identical to the 1e. The bottom plate is secured by turning the D toggle which turns a metal tongue into a groove in the side of the shutter crate. This is pretty obvious when you inspect it. On the tongue is a sticking up tab at roughly 45 degrees. This is like a pressure spring (it works against the edge of the grrove) to make everything snug.

I am guessing here so you will need to confirm for yourself. I would first bend the tongue itself down towards the baseplate - this should pull the baseplate back tight up against the body. If the tongue moves to stiffly or freely, you may need to adjust the tab slightly too. Be very careful in bending - the adjustment needed would be small and also it would very easy to damage the brass baseplate if the incorrect technique is used. The D toggle pivot has a screw head so I assume this could be dismantled - that would be a better technique for adjusting the tongue.

Good luck,
Paul

Just did some more investigating - ignore what I said about the 45 degree tab - I don't hink that it contacts the side of the groove at all (my poor eyesight). It is probably a spacer/locator for the film cartridge. If that is the case, it is probably designed to add pressure on the tongue and hence baseplate when the camera is loaded with film - in that context, there may be reason to adjust it but I would be looking at better advice than I can give in this regard. I have seen advice on the net about adjusting the tongue itself but at the moment, can't find it.

There should be a screw right in the center. You could
try running that up just snug, then back it off if it's tight
to close. If that doesn't work, someone has probably
tampered with it and lost one or both of the thin washers
internally.

If you mean it wobbles a bit, side-to-side, that's pretty normal and won't stop it doing its job. If it doesn't lock securely or is loose vertically you will need to investigate.

f you try to get a replacement, be aware it's NOT the same as used on FED or Zorki 1, they are all different. It IS the same as a Zorki 5. It works on an eccentric; turning the key towards closed pushes a tab towards the middle of the plate.
