Zunow RF lenses (noble, black, very rare)

Hi, The 10cm f/4 is a 6 element in groups of three but not sure about the 3.5cm f/1.7. I own a photocopy of a brochure on the Zunow system showing the camera and four of the lenses but these two have some chrome on them while the ones featured in the brochure are all black. There is a 3.5cm f/2.8 which is a 6 element in groups of four but not the f/1.7. I think these two are later additions in the Zunow range of lenses. I sold the original brochure on eBay back in 2000 which reached the staggering final total of $405.00US$. Best $5.00 Aus$ item I ever bought.

The brochure went for $405? WOW!

Man, I thought Leica prices could get rediculentious. I was buying Pentax SLR lenses for what Leicaphiles were paying for the box their lenses came in. But this is WAY beyond that!

Yes, it sounds like you did quite well!

And Zunow lenses are apparently made of pure unobtanium.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

the items he is asking about are up on ebay now. the 35mm was at $3000+ and the 100mm was at $2000+. pretty shocking since there is time left!

I'd guess they'll go higher. This is a case where hype isn't really needed. These are rare. The 100/2 is probably so much lower now because of the internal flaws mentioned. The seller seems to be honest in his descriptions, which makes a pleasant change.

Beautiful stuff, for a collector with deep pockets. Sad, that doesn't describe me, at all.

>>50mm f1.3 Zunow lens in LTM, I love that strange f number<<

Seems like there's a specialty company in Japan making F/1.3 lenses right now in the price range of somewhat below $1,000.

The two lenses have been sold... the 3.5cm/1.7 at $3451, and the 10cm/2 at $3550. Interesting, the high bidder on the 10cm was Arsenall. That was the lens that was identified as having haze that might not be able to be cleaned.

This seller also has a Canon 50mm/0.95, with a BIN price that doesn't seem outrageous. I say that because it includes the rare original hood, and the probably rarer rear lens cap. Those are 2 expensive items, in my experience. The auction is 7605852132, if anyone is interested... several days till closing. Thank
Heavens I don't need one, as I couldn't afford it.

Seen the genuine back cap for the Canon 0.95/50 first time. I have a Schneider-Kreuznach cap for mine. Strange thing that most dissapeared....

The back cap is a very hard item to find. I would be embarassed to say how much I paid for mine. The front cap, of course, should be chrome. I sometimes see the black cap with this lens. It came later than the RF, I believe. I know it is easier to find.

The black 72mm lens cap belongs to the EX 125mm lens which was the lens that screwed into the Canon EXEE and EX Auto cameras. Also I think it came with the Tele converter lens that was used on the front of the Super 8 cine cameras such as the 518 etc, but not sure.

There are two variations to the rear lens cap for the 50mm f/0.95 lenses. There are those that have a black paint inside and those that are chrome inside. The matte black caps belong to the normal 0.95 lens while the chrome version belongs to the TV versions of the .095 lens. One reason for the rarity of the normal rear cap is that the customer purchased a model 7/7s/7sz with a .095 lens attached and generally not a separate item. Amazing what a good advertising spiel does to an item, much like a Kodak Disc camera or modern day digital camera, everyone has to have one until!!!!!

The chrome 72mm cap isn't prone to get lost from its weight?
I'm quite happy with my snap-on-cap (early FD-lens style) for the 0.95/50 when in use...

cheers, Frank

After reading this, I dashed up 2 flights of stairs to the bedroom, and checked my rear cap. Lifted it off the lens, and... YES, BLACK. I don't care which is rarer, I wanted the black one for my normal lens.

This is a good example of the kind of information we need in an informed marketplace. Peter, we do have a real need for the second (?) book on the Canon Accessories. I hope it won't take quite as long, because now you have experience! Just kidding, of course, but I am anxious to see them in print.
