Critique Photo

I order to have a place to critique pictures , I propose that we post in here picture, and let others forumer critique them. The point is not to have some post as "wow wonderfull" but rather "imho there is some problem because ............" or "it works because................." , that would help one to improve his pictures. As it is the photographer who take the picture and not his gear, I propose not to argue here about gear, just give the focal length and film , soup etc .....you used 🙂. I hope this will work fine, with no arguments nor hypocrisy but humility . Whatever be the quality of your shoots, feel free to comment and critique, we've got to learn from each others . ( as I am french, I'am bond to have written a post full of mistakes, sorry for that 😀 )

What in this photo makes it stand out to you?
I ask because I don't really see something here. This is a photographic concept that I have seen many times. My problem here is that I do not see any dynamic within the image.

The image is exposed proficiently, but the subject remains uninteresting.

If it were me, looking to make this photo, I would have opted to go for a perfectly centered subject, slightly deeper DOF, and focus on the head.

okay, that excactly the kind of critique I wanted 😉 . I wasn't well organized in fact , I add only a started 400 iso film in my camera so I couldn't shoot with a lot of dof (I was at f2 and 1/10 ). Will try to get more organised next time

About your picture, if you want "critique" instead of silence: technically, it's very nice. However I have some reservations about the subject: I mean, imho, the place is rather mundane (even if it's Paris 🙄), we don't see any face, and there's no significant silhouette that could make the picture dynamic , unlike other wonderful pictures you've posted lately.
It's not very constructive, but I saw superb pictures by you, and this one seems rather flat to me. Don't hate me, please.

That is very constructive marc and I prefer to be told what is wrong than be said "wow wonderfull" that's all the philosophy of this thread.

what I like : architectural, good tones, nice to see the guy watching at you. Nice construction with graphic lines.

What I don't like : the picture is inclining (is it the good word ? I hope it is 🙂 ) to much space up the guy, I would have cut just under the kind of beam 😉

I haven't seen the tilt before. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll work on that then. Besides I kinda agree with you about cropping this picture (ususally I don't crop my picture, but I'll try that for this one).

Well concerning your picture i really like the vista, looks like the stairs are going to the core of the planet. However, people are quite far due to your short focal length 😉 may be going nearer of them would have been nice.

The way you shoot give a quite disorienting picture (because of the people on the left too ) and that's great 🙂

le vrai rdu : Your photo is technically good but I have to agree with the others, the subject lacks of interest. Personnaly, I would have tried to focus on the head of the subject.

Marc-A : It's a very nice photo with lovely tones, if you correct the tilt it will make it a lot better. Slightly more dof might have improved it too.

le vrai du: I tend to agree w/ Marc and Max. Technically good shot, not much going on. But! Keep carrying your camera w/ you and shooting in these locations. I think you'll find a subject or a situation that can add to the interest of the shot.

Rdu, your image is a snapshot everyone of us shoots at least 5 times in our lives. It's just missing a little je-ne-sais-quoi that would separate it from a regular snap shot.

NB23 I think you missed your picture, bad exposition with a red band on the top. Something could be done with the position of the girl and chairs but you cutted hers feets, sorry to say that but it only make me think about voyeurism . In fact I am surprised you don't show us some picture I saw in your site about life in the city 😉

This is very nice, I like the ray of light on the man walking, I like the tones, the contrast between the man wearing black and the rest of the photo, I like the grain too. All in all, a very nice photo.
