Will this collapse into the Bessa R? Or will it touch the shutter curtains?

Stephen are you out there? :D

My summitar will not collapse in my Bessa R.

Mine will BUT it is very close to touching everything internally so care must be taken when pushing the lens in. but it clears the shutter leaves with no problem Dave

The Summicron collapses on my Bessa R2 without problem. The Summitar collapses deeper. I do not collapse it on the Bessa, seems too close for comfort.

You still need extra clearance- the shutter blades of the R2 are not flat. They have "little struts" on them. Does not take much to ruin them.

set the shutter on B and collapse the lens to check whether it will damage the curtains or not?

Err... maybe with a "T" shutter setting (that the Bessa does not have) but I will never do this with the "B", I'm pretty sure that my finger will slip when the lens is collapsed and the shutter will crash on the barrel..

Trying it out with B is even more dangerous than doing it with the curtains closed. With the curtains closed, you can feel if you hit anything. With the curtains opened, you can have a lot of bent metal and/or scratched lenses before you know what hit you.

If the lens hits anything, it is likely that it is the internal baffles and not the curtains themselves. That said, I wouldn't risk it. Plenty of nice non-collapsing lenses out there (many of which are identical to the collapsible versions).

I use my Summitar 50 on my Bessa R2, occasionally, without collapsing the lens. I think is better don't collaps the Summitar into a Bessa R/R2 series.
Ciao.
