Got me a pre-war 50mm Sonnar

Bought a junker Contax II with good condition 50mm f/2 Zeiss Sonnar lens today. After inspecting the shutter I decided it isn't worth rebuilding so it will be pieced out on eBay but the lens has been well taken care of.

I'll have to test it against my J-8's to see how it compares..

Too much rust on the gear train and the springs in the gear train are all broken. The curtains look OK except for the edge leathers.

The IIa is a completely different camera from the II which the Kiev is based on, so it shouldn't be possible to use any parts from the II or Kiev in the IIa.

By the way, this thread made me reach for the IIa and place a Tessar 5cm/2.8 on it, after removing a Sonnar 5cm/2 CZJ T. Is this a pre-war lens?

Yes, you are right. It looks like new, but it is a very old lens. I just found a lens hood for it.

I meant to ask about my Soonar. Is it also pre-war?

It flares pretty easily if I remember correctly, but I've never seen a hood for one, so that's a good find. Hope to see some tessar photos soon.

I've got an aftermarket hood that will be used on it so hopefully that'll take care of any flare..

I've had the 5cm f2 sonnar on my IIa for about a week now. It also shoots surprisingly good color.

If you like color, I always had exquisite results from Fuji Reala and my uncoated Sonnar. Just amazing color tones.
