Very well, as you wish... let me spell it out for you.

W.H.I.C.H. D.I.C.T.I.O.N.A.R.Y...? Oxford? Websters? Do tell.

It's a made-up word, with a superfluous letter, that has been picked up and reused by internet illiterates. You may have a "lens" or a number of "lenses".

Regards,

Bill

That's all right then. Had me concerned for a nanosecond! :D

"It is a damn poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word" :D

(Note: I am compelled to state for the record that I prefer, and always use, the preferred spelling of "lens" rather than "lense" myself! :))

The sharpest CV lens was not listed in the original poll. I just added it, the 50/3.5 Heliar.

Not only is it the sharpest CV lens, it is currently the sharpest lens EVER tested by Popular Photography. Look it up in the March 2002 issue.

while long sold out in Leica screw mount, it is still available in Nikon RF mount on the Nikon R2S NHS sets.

Here's what the OED says:

lens |lenz|
noun
a piece of glass or other transparent substance with curved sides for concentrating or dispersing light rays, used singly (as in a magnifying glass) or with other lenses (as in a telescope).
• the light-gathering device of a camera, typically containing a group of compound lenses.
• Physics an object or device that focuses or otherwise modifies the direction of movement of light, sound, electrons, etc.
• Anatomy short for crystalline lens .
• short for contact lens .
DERIVATIVES
lensed |lɛnzd| adjective
lensless |ˈlɛnzləs| adjective
ORIGIN late 17th cent.: from Latin, ‘lentil’ (because of the similarity in shape).

Lentils? Whoaaaa, that's like, really heavy, man.

The only CV lens I have used is the 35 2.5 Color Scopar, only because it came attached to a Bessa R I bought. It sure doesn't look like much, and it has that strange little focusing tab on the bottom. But the shots from the one roll I shot w/ it were very, very sharp. It isn't my usual focal length but I am going to keep it. My only complaint is that I wonder if it is a true 2.5 because wide open it still has a pretty defined background. Other examples I have seen of this lens on this forum exhibit the same phenomena, so it isn't my sample. Still, it is a great lens. Just don't expect to blur the backround much.

I personally didn't really like the 28mm ultron. It was just very... flat. No particular character or fingerprint.
My old CV 35 f2.5 PII was an awesome lens however, I'm very sorry to have sold it truth be told - It was very very sharp with excellent bokeh, and the transition from in focus to out of focus (I know - note often talked about) was beautiful. Not only this, it was very small. Beautifully built as well... I'll get another sometime.

I had the 28mm Ultron and found it very flat as well. Sold it and bought a 15mm CV.
Great lens and great value.
BTW, also purchased a 28mm f2.8 Zeiss ZM to replace Ultron - absolutely love it !

I have owned numerous CV lenses and due to GAS I don't still own them all, but I would have to say that the CV 40mm/1.4 MC is the sharpest CV lens I have owned. I would guess the new CV 35/1,4 would be just as sharp. But remember sharpness on its own a great lens does NOT make.

The poll is nonsense, it only shows how many owners of particular lenses are presented in this forum
since one can only choose one lens out of the 12, it can't possibly show the ownership stats you claim it does.

cv lenses are cheap, many of the folk here own more than one, so the poll does give a hint as to where people think the greater sharpness lies.

The sharpest CV lens was not listed in the original poll. I just added it, the 50/3.5 Heliar.

I didnt even realize that this lens was added later, I just voted for it because it is an amazing lens. Most Voiglander lenses are a great balance between price and performance but this lens seems to be "We can make premium lenses as that other brand if we wanted too" declaration. And thats what it is a statement lens. I see a family signature in most of the Voiglander lens line but the 50mm f3.5 Heliar has character all its own. There is no need to stop it down to get the best performance it remains the same at all. Its slow it is true and that would put alot of people off purchasing it but make friends with a Rangefinder forum member who does and meet up with them too shoot a roll. I think every Voigtlander user should try this lens once. Its colour graduation and rendering of pastel colours and skin tones is truly wonderful. Its reputation is well deserved.

If given the opportunity to pick several in the Voiglander line that stand out above the others they would be 50mm f3.5 of course, 21mm f4 and 85/90 f3.5s

I also own the 15mm Heliar and think it is a terrific lens, with a great, compact, design, and an extraordinary value. It's a good performer, and I particularly love its reproduction of color, but it can't be considered one of CV's sharpest lenses.

I agree, I have a CV 15 mm and a CV 40 mm (SC), both have a very nice color rendition, but in sharpness they are behind my summicrons. Even my Summitar tends to be sharper! So... i didn't vote...yet

I currently own all the Voigtlander lenses in Nikon Rangefinder Mount plus the 15mm for the Nikon F Mount. The sharpest goes to the Voigtlander 50mm F3.5 Heliar S. Wow what a lens.
