so tonight I wanted to enjoy my Ricoh GX100. Took a walk tonight in downtown Moscow, Idaho.
After seeing the results I wonder, "why did I order the LX3?"

I picked one up last week. 24mm coverage is great. 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 formats at the click of a switch. Noise even in low light is not too noticeable at 800 ISO. The 2.5x zoom is less than I would like but if one is happy with 5mp images the zoom can be extended to 4.5X optical (24-108mm). Lots of full manual control and DSLR-like features. Definately a camera to try.

I bought one a few weeks ago along with the G10. Upgraded from G9 and D-Lux 3.
Anyway...it has all the improvements I wished for....I use a CV 21mm finder and the screen stays off unless I want it on....With a wrist strap the camera is very "M" like but smaller....with the 24mm, the DOF is amazing and the screen has a cool focus bar. On manual focus, the bar shows the DOF at any given focal length and F stop....
It should be noted that I don't see in color...never did....so IQ for me is about what the camera/lens gives me in B&W........it works...the IQ is great and I had prints made already and ...well...get one...you'll love it...
I'm off to AC again...great day for making images.....later...shooter

How do you like the LX3 compared to the G9? I shoot my G9 almost all the time now, except for my R-D1 which I use for theater photography. I even have a bunch of accessory lenses for the G9 which extend its reach from 24mm-310mm. Very useful for general purpose photography with that combination of lenses. The accessory wide is especially useful for fall color photography.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the LX3.
Love the image quality
Love the fast lens
Hate the ergonomics
Hate the lack of support (currently) for the Panasonic RAW
Still, it's one of the cameras I brought with me to Australia and, so far, the one that's getting the most usage.

Is there some reason camera manufacturers don't support some standard raw format, e.g. Adobe Raw? Is there some proprietary advantage to having your own Raw format? Doesn't seem so to me.

......exactly!.....when in two years time it will be just another forgotten, obsolete piece of history, to pass on to the kids, or try to get a few bucks trade-in against the LX5 or some other 'wonderbox'!!. Now, having got my Monday morning bout of pessimism over with, I think I'll re-read the DP1 reviews...er, DP2! or is the DP3 on the way yet? :bang:so tonight I wanted to enjoy my Ricoh GX100. Took a walk tonight in downtown Moscow, Idaho.

My big thumb changes the settings when I walk around with it on and held in my right hand. Annoying.
The RAW thing was a surprise for me. I obviously did not read enough reviews. Ad0be C S 4 is supposed to support it.

Just hang on - a few months and the LX4 will have addressed these issues!!My big thumb changes the settings when I walk around with it on and held in my right hand. Annoying.

Don't worry, Adobe says support is coming soon. I've been checking a thread on the Lightroom forum every few days, and somebody from Adobe just popped up to say "you won't have to wait long for a real solution."

I wish you hadn't done this. Now I want one, although I'm very happy with my Canon G9.

I'm interested to know how the CV 21mm viewfinder works with this. It's a long story, but I am thinking of buying this viewfinder because I am selling my M8 but keeping my 21 Elmarit M, for use on my M6. When I bought the 21mm Elmarit used I didn't pay extra ofr hte viewfinder as I planned to use it on the M8 (so bought a used Canon 28mm finder instead, which I will now have to sell) so I now need a 21 finder for my M6. If this works well with the LX3 as well then I will certainly get it...

The 21mm finder is about 95% or better in accuracy...even the close range is really close.....shooter
