I have Mamiya Super Deluxe with f/1.5 lens.
The problem is that for some reason I can't find here - in USA - original Lens Hood maid specifically for this camera (I have one maid by Mamiya for SD with f/2.0 lens, so I know they do exist out there).
The lens barrel is very special: the inner screw-in filter size is 55mm, but the outer barrel size is 62mm (in case if it's slip-on lens shade)!! I could never understand what was behind this insane design?
So, I was hoping some of you could look around/on the local eBay-like sites or in the local used photo shops and help me to get one: I'll gladly pay you whatever it cost plus shipping plus your interest...
PLEASE HELP (every single bit of information is welcome, like a picture or dealer's booklet or presentation pamphlet and so on...)!!!

I have the f1.7 model and I went to the Real Camera Shop<tm> and bought a plain generic off-the-rack screw-in lens hood. It works fine.

...thanks for your reply and yes, I do have generic 55mm lens hood, but the problem is that the outer lens hood diameter is still smaller than the outer size of aluminum lens barrel leaving lens barrel unprotected (55mm versus 62mm!).
I surprised that nobody knows anything about original f/1.5 lens hood.
BTW, do you have a picture of your MSD f/1.7 with the lens hood on? Could you upload it by any chance??

I didn't even know these originally came with a lens hood. The one I had when I was in my late teens did not have one.
No, but I will take one when I get home tonight.
As to when I get it processed and posted is another thing. The roll is almost all shot, but the weatherguessers are predicting the Storm Of The Century<tm> for Friday and if that happens I may be snowed in until they clear the roads, which, when it really does snow many inches, can be up to 24 hours.

I imagine that this collapsible rubber lens hood blocks the rangefinder window (or at least a small part of it), but it surely does the job.
Right now my MSD is in the repair shop: it's still on the warranty and I asked them to recalibrate the light meter (I don't expect light meter to be very accurate though - it's over 40 years old technology after all).
I'll try to upload my MSD pics as soon as I'll get it back...

AFAIK, no original Mamiya made lens hood was issued for this specific camera. At least this is what I got after some investigation. No one mentions it.
I´m using a "regular" 55 mm dia. x 18 mm long lens hood without any vignetting. Of course, it doesn´t fit reversed over the lens barrel but it helps to avoid flare so it´s worth the trouble.
As the lens doesn´t rotate, a square lens hood would be possible as well as desirable but it should have a drilled area to avoid VF blocking, what is definitely too expensive to make today.

...thank you and it's kind of sad news - as you already mentioned/know it's almost impossible to find anything aftermarket maid in order to protect the lens from the sun flare and yet secure the lens barrel (which is maid of relatively soft aluminum) from all sorts of accidents.
Any ideas?

It's not too bad. You do get the shadow in the viewfinder, but you can still easily focus. I don't use the lens hood all the time. I mainly got it for urban scenes at night where street lights off axis cause problems and such.
Mine is accurate enough to do Kodachrome. It agrees within 1/2 stop of the Pentax and the Gossen light meter. I do realize that the non-TTL meter, located where it is, is going to be a wide-angle averaging type of thing.
The thing I like about the Mamiya is that it's a true match-needle, and easy to adjust intuitively to the real-world conditions. After all, the meter is only making a "suggestion" as to your exposure.

Here, I just stumbled upon this photo in Flickr. It's a very good shot of all three variants of the SD:
I didn't realize the lens and lens barrel on the 1.5 model was so large! I don't think I've ever seen one of these with a 1.5 lens in real life. I kind of assumed that the barrel and shutter were the same across all models.

...dmr! I forgot to ask you a question about your soft release you're using on your MSD (I can see it on the both pictures): how does it work for you and where did you get it from?

The soft release is just a plain-jane generic camera shop pegboard one. May have been the Promaster brand, but not sure.
As to if it helps or not, I'm really not sure. Jury is still out. It doesn't hurt anyway. I can still shoot confidently always at 1/60, most of the time at 1/30, and sometimes at 1/15.
