...sitting around and playing with several ideas about the rd1 thats incoming.

so, a 28 mm lens would be ok as the rd1 has frame lines for it.

but a 15mm lens would give me that nice wide view that i like.

right now i don't want to think about both but just one.
to be honest, i should just keep it as is, get used to the rd1 and the lenses i already have and then decide.

keep in mind, that the 15mm vignettes considerably on the R-D1!

That's true. I don find lenses with recessed elements have a tendency to do that. It can be corrected in post processing, but I would rather not have to bother. Still, the 12mm and 15mm are great on the R-D1.

Epson RAW does a pretty decent job with the vignetting and it's very easy and quick to do. if it doesn't get rid of it completely, it definitely makes it much less noticeable.

after initial b*tching about it, i've gotten to enjoy the natural vignetting.... i currently have a cheapo filter on the Nocti and am finding the vignetting it causes pretty charming.

as i have stated before, i have 2 g1 kits and am selling one.
i will have a drf and the g1, both using the same lenses and having the option of auto focus with the g1 and film with the zi.
the r4a might be on the chopping block soon.

This sounds like a good plan. I have both a G1 and an R-D1, which I have had since it came out. They are very different cameras, and I like to use both. For film I have too many Leica M bodies and my all time favorite slr, the Nikon FM3a. Manual Nikon lenses are a real bargain these days, and I am stocking up on lenses I always wanted but couldn't afford. Joe, you are making a good choice and you will be very happy with your options with those cameras.

I did not know that you had two G1's.

Although I do recall you buying one recently and I was interested enough to find out more about it (once I had understood it wasn't a Contax G1) and I thought it looked a useful camera.

I just bought a 25mm Zeiss for my R-D1. I've been wanting the 35mm Biogon for some time for my M6 and finally got it in December, but now that I have the Epson, the crop factor makes it a 52mm... I plan to use the 28mm framelines for the 25mm Zeiss. Since I use glasses, the 28mm framelines are somewhat hard to see, but I think I'll manage.

...yeah, Joe... a 28 will definitely work - I know just where you can get one 😉
Seriously though, that would be a nice combo with a fov of 22mm & 42mm. If you're only planning on getting one lens then perhaps just use the 21mm that's indicated on your sig and decide from there. It should give you a wide fov, which hopefully will help you out whether you want to go wider or longer.
