How's it hanging ?

During the summer I've been preferring, for walking about, a Hasselblad over the Leica.

Why - it's not for the larger negatives, but it's because it hangs better:
The 501c with 80mm and WLF just seems to have the right balance and weight so that it does not bounce around or slip off my shoulder.

A Leica M with small lens is too light and the Leica strap does not have the same adhesion to stop it slipping.
If I'm walking with a Leica RF it's got to be in the hand or in the bag. I tried tucking it in behind my shoulder, but it requires effort to keep it there.
Once the temperature drops to levels where a jacket is needed or it's raining and the camera is often in a bag, the Leica comes back into favor.

Any summer time camera carrying preferences or tips ?
What camera hangs best for you ?

Guess the sliding ring on the loop takes point of pivot much closer to the weight.
Do you still need to occasionally grab the sling loop on the other end to stop the body swinging ?

This summer I really enjoyed carrying my 2-lug M5 over my left shoulder hanging vertically. Especially on days when I was taking two cameras, I could hang the Bessa or F4s around my neck and they wouldn't bang or tangle.

Yes, if you are leaning down I usually find myself grabbing the camera a little. Plus the strap keeps the camera to the side, which makes me a little more stealthy for candids. Be careful using the soft release because unlike neck straps, the SR can get caught on a belt loop or such. www.leicagoodies.com

Round the neck. Not a problem in the last 40+ years. Books in the 1960s and 60 advised that no matter how elegant a camera over the shoulder might look, it was much easier to bang it into door-frames and other things, and slower to get to the eye. I've always found that advice to be spot on.

Also, I take completely different pics with Hasselblads and Leicas, so they're not really interchangeable as far as I am concerned.

Actually Roger has a point. Over the neck is probably more secure.

I find the strap over my shoulder and cam under my arm works best for me. I have a 1" non-slip Tamrac strap, works as it should. Under my arm makes the camera more discreet; never a problem banging against the door. Carrying a camera round the neck and in front hangs like a big sign: Look At My Camera!
