Help, Auto mode problem with my OM-2's.

That's quite a big hunk o junk in that lens. I'm glad you have the seven day return option.

As am I!

The 28/3.5 arrived today, looks to be in excellent condition in every way. I'll bring that, the 24, and the 50/1.8 on vacation the next few days so will get a chance to give them a good workout.

try rapping (lightly) the side of the lens on a table top to dislodge the paint fleck. (edges of elements are painted black to reduce light scatter/reflection. i'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Yeah, tried that, and it does remove it temporarily, but if I move it around some more it'll pop back out into the optics. The aperture blades are quite sticky too, so I am going to ship it back; not paying full price for something I have to do maintenance on immediately.

Well, on the bright side 2 out of 3 lenses bought at decent prices came out great -- not a bad hit rate for ebay. (I think it was $32 for the 28/3.5 and $114 for the 24/2.8)

Ok, I'm looking at the back of the lens with the red dot at the 12 O'clock position. There are two small flat tabs, one around 1 O'clock, the other near 8 O'clock. The tab near 8 O'clock looks bent inward and twisted a bit. I'd try to straighten it but it looks like it might snap off. I'm just going to return it as I got a beautiful 50/1.8 today along with an 28/2.8 and 85/2.

Yep, that lens was dropped on the aperture registration pin. That's also why your camera was metering erratically at first.
