Anyone in Nashville have an M9

I am sick of my 1Ds mk3 and am thinking about going all rangefinder but before I even seriously consider offloading gear I need to get my hands on a new M9 to see for myself what it's all about. I am looking for someone who has one who would, in their presence of course, handle it a bit and shoot some frames on my own card so I could take the files home and see what all the hubbub is about.

I would rent one but, alas, Nashville is gear poor and all of the mail order rent houses make you rent for the week and I don't feel like spending that kind of cash.

If you wanted to drive to Memphis you could try it out at Memphis Photo & Supply. They had one in stock when I was in there last week. I have played around with it and it's nice.

Sure, but that is why I suggested that 'if' I had to choose I would still choose to keep the 1Ds III. Then I could still use my long teles for birds and wildlife. In geheral use the 1Ds III is better at low light/high ISO etc,

It was back in 91'. I went together with a friend of mine who had lectured at University of Soutern California. When he quit we drove across USA from west to east. - Without wives. That was half the fun. My wife was then finishing her bacholor and could'nt come along. - I often tease her with telling her that this was the best holiday I have ever had. - Which is true.

I haven't heard or seen anyone in town with an M9 yet. There are a couple of folks with M8s and M8.2s (I saw them in Dury's looking for lenses late last year.) As an M8 and D3 owner, I can say they are very different beasts. They complement each other. For the stuff I do, the D3 would be the most adaptable to the widest set of conditions.

Yeah, Dury's is super limited on pretty much everything. I used to love my 1dsIII but I don't know, just having a bit of a falling out with it. I just hauled that thing and 2 lenses across Africa and the camera itself held up great but the images were not what I was looking for, it was too obtrusive and HEAVY.

I would consider RENTING the Leica M8 and a lens for a week.
This is not cheap, but lensrental.com out of Memphis likely has them, and would let you try out the glass and a similar camera. I own the M8 after converting from the D1X, and wouldn't go back. I will likely get a DSLR for sports and macro in the future, but I honestly believe that my photography has improved dramatically since selling the Nikon and going Leica. But it is VERY different, and is in many ways, complimentary. I don't plan to move up to the M9 any time soon: 7000 dollars is just a bit much. The M8 or 8.2 is superb.

No store has one. I've looked. No one in Nashville deals in Leica--at least I haven't located one and I've looked. If anyone in Nashville has an M9--I'll buy you lunch if you let me hold it for a few minutes.
