Just picked this up today, a little overpriced, I feel like, at 60000 yen, but I needed something to replace my M4.
In fact, so far I think I like this camera better than the M4. Much smaller (especially with the 40mm), AE'd, and I can actually see the 28mm framelines, unlike the 35mm lines I can't see on the M4 because of my spectacles..
I'll just pray that nothing will go wrong with it, so far it seems to be functioning perfectly, I haven't gotten a roll back yet but shutter speeds are all spot on and the meter reads well. Everything's extremely clean, should be trouble free for at least a year or two right?

Congrats on that clean-looking CLE, disco! Seems to me 60000 Yen is pretty reasonable for camera and lens. The compact size and east-to-see 28mm framelines are definite advantages. Enjoy!
 
The grip seems to be the original one. Rare to find. But the one for the 'new' Zeiss Ikon fits well too. I don't get why people put so much rubber on their camera... It's not a Leica, keep cool. It just looks like a small and modest point and shoot camera, I don't see who could be interested in... except perhaps with all that rubber on it !

no problem with the collapsible on the cle -- i posted this question a while back before picking up the CLE and got mixed answers. the clearance is very close, but it doesn't actually touch the light baffle inside. the framelines for 40mm aren't ideal, but i've had no problem with framing. big improvement over the iiif i usually carry, although the reduced magnification might have a bit of a learning curve.

the grip is the original one. keh had it a while back.

gaff tape is great! adds traction, keeps corners clean. thinner than a half-case. not sure it makes the camera less obvious. don't really care. i keep my camera under a jacket when it needs to be inconspicuous. usually i'm setting up med or large format. that really draws attention.

OK, picked up a 90mm Rokkor today for the CLE, shot a roll with lights, will drop it off at Citizens tomorrow for development. Everything on the camera looked good and the internal meter was generally close to my hand held light meter.

I know, I've already posted a picture of my darling here, but I got a Canon 25mm f/3.5 today so I want to show it off again! The 25mm lens is very very thin/pancakeish. Viewfinder a bit on the big/heavy side but works kind of well on the CLE:

nice cameras' i saw a cle today with what i think was a CV 40mm 1.4 on it. it looked nice and compact. i think i want one with a 28mm on it too !

True... The CLE's 28mm framelines stand out well from the edges of the window so you can easily see around them. Really a nice camera for 28mm lens use. Out of sheer gratitude for this I presented my CLE with a NOS Summicron 28mm! 😀

Now you've all done it 🙂 I think I may start looking for a Leica CL and 40mm Summicron...

I find that the 50mm frame lines on my M3 at 35mm (with goggled Summaron on) are near impossible to see with my glasses (i'm a new glasses wearer). I had been looking at an M6 and a 35mm Summicron, but that's more $$$ than I would have available. But now, this provides a real alternative I had not considered.

A small, black, metred body with the 40mm Summicron would compliment the M3 nicely I think. All up that could likely cost just slightly more than a M6, and it's much more compact.

I had tossed up purchasing a 50mm Summilux for the M3 instead. Decisions, to go 40mm and be at F2 or to go for the Summilux 50mm or wait and get an M6. F1.4 vs F2.

Your goggled Summaron will give you nice generous framelines on an M2/4/5/6/7 with .72x viewfinder; no need quite yet to give up on that great lens!

As you probably know, in regard to the CL, that it has both 40 and 50mm framelines, and is a very different animal from the Minolta CLE which succeeded it. IMHO the CLE is considerably superior... 🙂
 
Thanks Doug, I will keep an eye out for both. The Summaron is a sharp lens, I really do like it - if I where to find an M2 for a good price I would definitely consider it.
