Arles 2010 meeting

This may be a daft question, but can I clarify what happens at the start of this event ? The website gives the dates as 3rd-13th July (3rd. is a Saturday) for the opening period, but Roger mentions Tuesday 6th. as the opening. Is the first weekend not open to the public ? Or, very possibly, the "Official" opening is different to the actual kickoff ? This sort of info is handy for trains and hotels of course, and the website won't have the program up for a month or so apparently.

Thanks for any clarifications . . . :)

Dear Martin,

With any luck you've seen the official dates now, and read our reports of the last two shows: http://www.rogerandfrances.com/subscription/ps events.html. Yes, it's always a shambles. It's STILL worth going to.

Cheers,

R.

Went a couple of years ago for the first time. Spent a lovely afternoon with Roger and Frances I won't soon forget. I wish I could afford to go every year, but alas, not his year. I highly recommend the experience and the company, and of course, the superb wine and food.

Dear Charlie,

Perhaps next year at the Bar du Thym again...

Still enjoying your pics. But you have to admit, Arles can be serious overload when it comes to taking in exhibitions! And indeed other photographers' portfolios!

Cheers,

R.

Me and my girlfriend would love to be there for the event and meet you people, but we are not very good at planning ahead.

Who knows maybe this time we can make it.

Glad we're not the only ones! I wonder sometimes...

Quite honestly this and photokina are the only things we plan well in advance. Ahead of birthdays, wedding anniversaries, etc.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Roger,

Not having to review any of the exhibits lightens the experience a bit, but even if one doesn't agree with the viewpoint of many of the images on display, it is nevertheless a pleasure to be totally immersed in things photographic for a week. I stayed in Arles until the following Thursday, then did an overnight in Marseille before returning home. I loved walking around Arles on my own and making images. The town of Arles is a magical place.

Small problem, I'm now shooting the Classic Le Mans 24 hours 9-11 July.
Its the classic version so as well as elegant cars also apparently involves a degree of eccentricity and alcohol , much like

http://www.photoshelter.com/c/clive...-Efficiency-or-Eccentricity/G0000z5ADLP_43uk/

which is apparently one reason why I've been asked to spend 2 days camping inside the circuit with a renegade [non-approved!] Porsche club...................
and maybe because I drive a 1974 911 carrera ;-)

Anyway it may prove to be difficult to be in both places at once, only happens every other year though.
Will see..........
Best
Clive

Dear Clive,

Hard call!

But you can be in Arles part of the time.Nothing stops us having two meet-ups there

I'm also an A.C.O. member, but then, I don't drive a Porsche. Just a 1972 Land Rover and a 1978 BMW R100RS.

If we don't see you -- well, have a great time, and there's always next year!

Cheers,

R.

Well I sold my 94 Harley two years back because it wasn't getting any use, and my son wrote off my Audi this time last year, total sum siiting in "car fund " since then = EUR 17k.
Finally decided I needed a car, so either a new Blandmobile [Ford Focus ?] or a 1974 2.7 Porsche carrera, another tough call ??
Best

Dear Roger,

What days is the Arle meet planned for ? I see that the exhibition lasts about 2 weeks, and that you booked for July 5.

Nearby, there are several fantastic areas to visit, also for photographers; are those also part of the program perhaps ? Are others interested to go there too ?

Kind regards,

javabean.

Dear Javabean,

FROM July 5th. Meeting July 6th. I'm there for a week, because I've already been there many times (= lots of pics already taken). I'd recommend several days at least, and the first week is definitely the time to go.

Cheers,

R.

About ten weeks to go, folks...

Cheers,

R.

Oh Roger, do stop it!

I finally managed to land a temporary contract, so have some money coming in, but it runs through July, so I won't be able to make it :(

Will have to come and annoy you some other time

Hope you all have fun

Dear John,

To quote Wilde, "Work is the curse of the drinking classes!"

Never mind: next year. And Robert: my fingers are crossed for you too (as the bishop said to the actress).

Cheers,

R.
