32 frame count reset on my Leica m6

Hi,

I am new to this forum. Please let me know if this is an appropriate place on the site to ask technical questions.

My question has to do with the fact that my M6 resets when I take out the bottom plate to 32. I believe it is supposed to reset 3 or 4 shy of the Zero - which is 41 or 42 on my counter.

I read somewhere that there's a spring under the counter that is likely worn or needs lubrication.

Any advice?

I have an R4 that did this – the problem seems to have started when I dry-fired it with the motor winder attached and then left it for a long period of time at '36'. I seem to have fixed it by repeatedly winding a film through the camera and then bak into the cassette. Somehow this got the counter zeroing, but I don't know if it would work on an M!

As long as you can still shoot to the end of the roll, I think I would just put up with it until the M6 is due for a CLA. You know when you are out of film--it stops winding on!
