Oh my God, I’m a Noctilux owner!!

Congratulation with your Noctilux. Which model is it? The 50 mm 1,0 with the built in sun shade, - well, sort of. If so, it is the same as I have. I wonder; how is it focusing? I mean; how accurate is it when focusing at full aperture? Is it backfocusing or frontfocusing? Most of the pictures you have shown us here have been stopped down a few clicks. Then the Noctilux performs far better - and is easier to focus. It is the close up - say, at 2 meters, at full aperture which is demanding. To say the least.

Do you have such close ups to show us?

congrats for OP, and some nice pictures there. am Nocti-owner also, but not yet full frame digi owner, so glass is waiting for used M9 prices come down. + occasional film use of course.

good info about sending Noctilux to Leica for CLA, didn't even knew they were doing that for old lenses.
 
Someone mentioned the advantage of shooting with an M9/8 because of the high shutter speed. These are shot in more or less broad daylight at 160 ISO 1/4000 (f/1 goes without saying, right?...)

By the way, photographing a 3-year old at f/1: NOT easy!

Even without the hood it has some falloff even at f/4. Most noticeable wide open, of course. Some would see that as a weaknes, I guess. Me? No. I love it.

I've been looking for an "affordable" Noctilux for some time now but it looks like I may have to buy new.
There just aren't any second hand locally and I'm very reluctant to buy such an item off E Bay.

Please post some low light shots. Something with small lights in the shot.

Since you sound like someone who actually works for his living (and not for luxury) I predict you´re gonna sell the lens sooner or later because

1.) You could need the money for something else
2.) Its not that much different to a Summilux at 1.4

PS: The funny thing is, show the Noct-shots to non photographers and they will ask you why everything is blurry. Then tell them what you paid for that.
 
If you bought one of these things, you'd only sell it if you didn't like the way it renders, and you'd probably find that out pretty quickly. The OP has the pre-ASPH f1.0 version of the lens which retains it's unique signature at f1.4.

The new ASPH f0.95 Noctilux however does render similarly to the Summilux ASPH at f1.4, but we're not discussing that lens here.

Well, I don't know about that.. For reason one: When I have the Noctilux, what else would I need money for? For reason two: I did try a Summilux for some time and although that was a great lens the Noct is really much better for my taste. Plus that extra stop is actually quite significant.

Seriously, unless I can somehow dig up enough dough to get the new F/0.95 (which will probably never happen) I really doubt I'll ever sell this lens. 😎

Yeah that's what they say. Haven't heard it myself yet but if I did I really wouldn't care😉
 
on a recent trip, i visited a leica shop and--for the first time ever--played with the 50 lux and 50 nocti. pure pleasure ... of the two, i think the lux would make more sense for me, but the nocti was fun ... with such a creamy oof rendering.
