Close up; 50mm summi or 90mm Tele-Elmarit

I have a 50mm Summi that I enjoy but sometimes I feel that i want to get a bit closer. I have found a Tele-Elmarit for a good price but the question is will that "fill the frame" better😕
as the Summi has a close foc at 0,7m and the TE 1,0m..?

I cant try out the TE as it is located in another city, so I would appreciate any input on this.

Dear Mattias,

At 1 metre, the 90mm image with be 9/5 the size of the 50mm = 1.8x.

At 0,7metre, the image will be 10/7 the size of the image at 1 metre = 1.4x.

Divide 1.4 into 1.8 and you get 1.28x, so the 90 will indeed be bigger. In fact, the area covered by the 90 at its closest focusng distance will be about 60% of that covered by the 90 at is closest focusing distance.

A rough calculation, but good enough to make the point.

You're welcome. I've just thought of a much easier argument, though.

Put a metre rule on the table.

Select the 9cm frame and see how much of the rule is visible at 1 metre.

Select the 5cm frame and see how much of the rule is visible at 0,7 metre.

Try the summicron 50 DR !

Normal focusing on the DR stops at 40 inches (3'4") at about 1:15-1:16 magnification, add the goggles and it goes down to 19" for a 1:7.5 magnification. Sorry, my copy is non-metric but I'm sure you can do the conversion for yourself 🙂
 
The DR doesn't fit all Leicas, including many M6 bodies. Great lens though.

Get the TE, everybody needs a 90mm. Make sure there is no haze or etching on the elements, best is one with serial nr > 3 Mio.

It does not fit on many M6 bodies (including classics) because the RF cam may collide with the meter cell. Not a problem of the goggles. This varies from body to body.
 
I am using a MP, will the DR work on that?
Anyway according to the seller the TE should be in excellent condition.
Although its a bit old, serial no. 2794621

maggieo; very nice pictures of the guitar, its exactly that kind of stuff that i want the TE lens for.
