Found a few from Ebay but was a little apprehensive about buying them from the Bay.
My search led me to Leica Shop, Vienna (What a treasure!)
...... they have another BP M4 that has been refurbished by Leica that is in better condition than mine..... hint hint

The staff from Leica shop is great to deal with and from my extensive research, their prices are quite competitive too.

Very nice! With just a touch of brassing on the rewind lever. I like it but probably can't afford it.

I was advised that on the black paint M4, the rewind knob/crank, the shutterspeed dial and the caps for the frameline preview and self timer may not be brass. Can anyone verify? Also, some pictures actually shows the shutter speed dial and the rewind crank/knob to be black chrome. Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

I've put my hands on one heavily brassed, original BP M4 and the rewind cranks was definitely brass. I think the dial was also, but I'm not sure.

Beautiful M4.. I'm glad you got a fix. But NOW !! I have sudden lust for a Black Paint 35mm summilux ASPH version II .... Ahh... I can only dream on..

The crank is definitely brass as my M4's crank is brassing a little.
The shutter speed dial looks chrome.
The levers are brassing as well but the 'circle' where the levers turns looks like chrome.

Congratulations on the BP M4!
Its my favorite M, has been from the beginning (my Leica mentor had one) and always will be.
As for the brass parts... early production cameras had an all brass/BP rewind part assemble. This was changed later to an alloy material that was black anodized (center flip-out post stayed brass painted black), so the later version outer part will show silver when the black wares through. The levers on front are BP brass. The lever caps are BP alloy on most cameras so will show silver, but some (very few) I've seen have brass caps. The shutter speed dial is black anodized alloy, unlike the earlier BP M2 or M3 which where brass/BP.

I love BP m4s and would like to buy one someday. But I haven't found my cure for my current lust for a summilux. 🙁

Thanks for the good information! Good thing I didn't spring for one that's obviously black paint top plate with the rest of the moving parts in black chrome. Oh well, like they said, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.
