Sudden lust for a black paint Leica..... Found my cure

Thanks for the good information! Good thing I didn't spring for one that's obviously black paint top plate with the rest of the moving parts in black chrome. Oh well, like they said, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Cheers,

Benny has gas and there is no cure!

Good catch. My BP M4 has the black chrome shutter speed dial and rewind knob (the lever is BP). I have seen MANY like mine, and a few that have all brass parts. "dreamsandart" is correct. In some cases I'm sure the black chrome rewind knobs were replacment parts (because I've broken the knob on one of my M4-2's before, so I know it can happen). As for shutter speed dials, I don't know why one would be replaced. My point is you probably have an all original camera (not that it should matter). Now go out and burn up some film !

i don't think you'll actually find a cure. i have a bp M3, bp M4 and a bp MP, but i still want a bp M2! collecting pretty cameras never ends...

I have to settle for a after factory repainted black Canon P.
It looks used, and I love it

John: Lucky you!!! Wish I can go and pay Leica Shop a visit...... then again...... I tend to have problems with self control

Congratulations on the BP M4!

Its my favorite M, has been from the beginning (my Leica mentor had one) and always will be.

As for the brass parts... early production cameras had an all brass/BP rewind part assemble. This was changed later to an alloy material that was black anodized (center flip-out post stayed brass painted black), so the later version outer part will show silver when the black wares through. The levers on front are BP brass. The lever caps are BP alloy on most cameras so will show silver, but some (very few) I've seen have brass caps. The shutter speed dial is black anodized alloy, unlike the earlier BP M2 or M3 which where brass/BP.

Enjoy your camera :D

Sweet; and congrats to fixbones.
