Has anyone noticed that those CV SLR lenses are getting great reviews, built beautifully, small and have great optics? Pete Smith, of Nikonsmith, tested a couple of them for me (the 40mm and 58mm) and was blown away by how sharp they are. Plus they are chipped so if Nikon ever comes out with a Nikon FM/FE like digital you will be ready to go. OK I am done shilling for Voigtlander.:)

I use the 40mm on my 5D2. It's fantastic. Check my flickr for samples!

I use the 40/2 SL on my FM3A and D200. Very well-made lens. Here's a fairly recent one from my Flickr stream. Maybe not the best sample:

If I ever buy a dedicated "normal" lens for my FM3a, it'll be the CV 40mm. I scan the RFF classifieds for one all the time.

I have the 40 and the 58mm; they are beautifully made lenses with a nice, solid feel. The 40mm is versatile, compact and very, very good. The 58 is slightly soft wide open but razor edge sharp when stopped down.

40mm (1/1000s wide open - on Nikon D700):

58mm (1/2500s @ f/4.0 - also on D700):

love my CV40 on Nikon as well (1st version), small, sharp, well made. hood is also nice and practical, almost never have to clean the lens front, and it wont increase the total size much.

Bought the 40/2 SLII a few months back for my analogue Nikons. 40mm is the ideal focal length for me. The lens is also not too fast, meaning no optical compromises and it keeps it small. It fits my needs so well that it has become my most frequently used lens. If I want to bring a compact 35mm kit with the best possible quality, the CV 40mm on a Nikon FM2 is hard to beat. Sure, the M2 + DR Summicron is even better, but I wont have a built-in meter and a lens that is slightly too long sometimes.

Performance is simply outstanding, it must be the best SLR lens I have ever used. See my Flickr for results.

Nice pictures! I ordered the 40mm last night for my 5D2. It will replace my 35/1.4L; I realized that the time spent with Leicas have made me allergic to big lenses.
