I just got myself a 50 summicron R to try out on my D700. Does anyone else use Leica glass on their D700 or D3?
I wish I hadn't sold my R 'crons now! I'm looking for a 35 but prices even on R glass seem to have gone mad too!
Which R lenses do others think are THE ones?
If anyone has samples please post them.
My reason is that I was thinking hard about an M9 as I have the 35's and 50's but I like the D700 so this way I get to use some Leica glass on digital.

I have the lastest R 50 summicron and R 28 elmarit v2. I also have ZF 35/2. I wish Nikon had a split image screen for the D700. I like the one in my F6.

The 28 v2 is the finest (d)slr lens ever.
 
The E60 50mm f1.4 is stellar. Even E.Puts says so.

The 35mm f1.4 is fantastic, but interferes with the D700 mirror.

The 70-180 APO zoom is better than prime lenses through-out the range.

I also have the 15mm f2.8 and 19mm f2.8. I want to try these on my M9 too.

Oh, I have the 28mm PC - fantastic for architecture shots, and loved in on a holiday in Venice.

The 100mm f2.8 APO is the best macro made by man.

Yes, the R lenses are good. I even bought an R9 and DMR to play digital R

If you've sold the rest of your R glass, check out the Contax glass...generally cheaper, with more 3D 'pop' and amazing color. Leitax makes adapters for Contax MM lenses (speaking of Contax/Yashica mount.)

Having used the 35 summicron R x2 (sold both 4 years ago arghhhhh) i loved the look of that lens but went to M's. Same look, smaller body. Tried to convince myself that I could still use an M, hence the M9 thought and realised that for me and my eyes an SLR works best. I've been contemplating a 35 2.8 distagon as well as the 'cron. I love the pictures that I get with my 24-70 2.8 Nikkor and 1st tests indicate that the 50 'cron looks very similar to it however there is just something I can't put into words about pics taken with those 35 and 50 'crons. The main thing is that I'm having fun experimenting😀
 
Leica lenses are as stellar on Nikon digital as on film. I use 28 and 35 PC. Have used 280 2.8 and 90 2.0 APO. The down side is you lose diaphragm automation which take you back to 1960. But for many subject, who cares. My 28 and 35 are fully manual anyway.

I also use my 65, 90 2.8 125 2.5 135 4.0 200 4.0 280 4.8 400 & 560 6.8 from the M system with a simple adapter from Camera Quest.

I use a D700, D3, D200, and D40. Results are excellent across all.

If you photo style can make use of manual diaphragm, I recommend it. I keep the Nikkors for action photos and AF when required.
