shoddy journalism - re: leica lens

Nahh ... I'll wait for the Stupilux!

I've heard it's out of image rendering has to be seen to be believed. :D

When mounted to any of Panasonic’s Micro Four-Thirds-sized cameras, it has an equivalent focal length of 50mm.

That is deceptive too. Does not say equivalent to what. And it's not EQUIVALENT, it is still a 25mm lens.

Should have said approximately equivalent field of view (since the aspect ratio is 4:3) to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera.

That is really shoddy journalism - worse than the stupid typo IMO>

If you look at the picture of the lens its not just a 'Summilux' but a 'D Summilux' so you can see where the problem comes from. Maybe the D stands for Dummy......

So why are Panasonic announcing this and not Leica? Is it not really a Leica lens?

Shoddy journalism is when you publish misleading stories that start a war (e.g., Spanish-American War). This is a minor linguistic imprecision that reflects common usage and, really, is easily adequate for the story in question.

Take a chill pill.

The Dummilux, which rather than a typo I think they were just calling it by what it should be known as, has been out for years. Maybe it was only available in regular 4/3 mount before but it is not new.

From 2007: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0703/07030703leica50mmsumm.asp

Wrong, it's a completely different lens with a completely different mount. Different optical formula, half the size, half the weight, half the price, and for m4/3 mount rather than 4/3 mount.

So to be exact, this is a brand new lens and was announced on Monday.

Yhbv24 said it best: "More of a typo than shoddy journalism. Shoddy editing,"

Or more like likely, no copy editing and no proofreaders as publications try to

cut expenses and stay in business.
