I get it. Different styles and different situations. Having a 28 on my phone has led me to feel it’s just too wide for what I like to shoot. It’ll always be a tossup between the 35 and 50.
For me, at this point in my shooting, I like the way the 50 feels.

When I bought the 21 f4.5 ZM C Biogon I put it on rhe M5 with the Zeiss finder and shot that for weeks. I learnt the look of the lens. I found the big flat body of the M5 was better for both leveling the camera, and for keeping it parallel to the face (buildings, so often) of the subject. And while the finder was great for framing, I made the final shot often through the VF to use the RF patch as the final check on being level. With digital I don’t use the accessory finder much at all.

Not sure yet. I’m waiting for a Ricoh GR III. Tough for me to decide between that and the GR IIIX. But as my friend commented, “ you can always crop in but you can’t crop out.”
I took my GRD IV as my only camera last summer and loved it for the streets and museums in Amsterdam.

Current thinking for me is that a fast 35 could work as a single prime for travel, but I'd have to complement it with a compact like the Panasonic LX10. Just thinking out loud.

My 35mm Summilux is by far my most used lens but, that said, I would never travel with one lens and an interchangeable lens camera .....

Depending on system, either 35mm Summilux-M ASPH or closest 6x7 equivalent (Pentax 2.8/75mm AL).

Whatever. Just decide what suits you, and go with it. As they say, horses for courses. If we think of lenses as horses.

I’ve traditionally defaulted to a 35 but have found I can be quite happy with a 40 or even a 45.

interchangeable lens camera: whatever the whim of the moment dictates when packing.
A 35, a 43, a 50, even a 28 ... they all do fine.

Currently on holiday with our grown up girls. Have a 50, as per usual but have allowed the 4/85 and 2.8/28 Zeiss ZMs into the bag.

Right now a 28mm or 35mm will do but it’s hard to choose which. I guess it depends on subject matter.

My dilemma is somewhat different. A 28/2.8 D has been on my D800 so long, it's now firmly stuck to the camera.
And I'm too skint to pay to have it pried off.
So I make do. Actually, it's a pretty good lens.

In a week, I'm going on a road trip across Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio (to the USAF Museum in Dayton) then down to Memphis before driving back to Wisconsin over a couple of days via back roads.
I'm still waffling on exactly what I'm going to take with me except for my Rolleiflex Automat - THAT's an easy choice 🙂
But after that? Leica M 240? Lens or Lenses?
Pentax K3? Pentax PZ-1p? Which lenses?
The closer I get, the less certain I am. 🤣
