Here's a question if you had £1000 would you buy a secondhand 35mm Summicron for your M9 or a fuji x100?

Catch 22 IMO!
You will be able to shoot in very low light at high ISO's with the X100 but you may have trouble focusing it. The M9 is relatively easy to focus in low light but it's high ISO performance is questionable!
Tough choice ... but I'd be sticking with the M9 which means the Summicron gets it!

Summicron, hands down. The X100 is nice but Id love the Summicron more. Plus you have an M9 so the X100's size doesn't gain you anything

If the question was presented another way, i.e. would I give up a Summicron 35 for a X100, then the answer would certainly be "No"

Size doesn't...but weight does. Also, you gain high ISO, macro, a quiet leaf shutter, AF, etc.

Sorry I thought I answered quite well, I like the idea of the x100 as an all day carry camera and the appeal of the hi iso, probably my question should be more have you an M9 and did you buy an x100 and how does it work for you.

I'd say seeing as you have already got a 35mm lens ( summilux pre asph) that works wonderfully on the M9 and there is mixed opinion on the X100. Manual focus limitations seeming to be commented on again and again. I'd say you don't need to get either! Save the money for now until something comes along, that is worth parting with it, for.

I use both as my only cameras. The M9 is my preferred camera and of course gives me the option of a digital camera with interchangable lenses in a form factor that I am used to (i.e. rangefinder). I use the X100 when I need high ISO, when I need a silent camera, when I don't feel like focusing manually, when I need to do close-ups, or when I want something with a 100% accurate viewfinder (X100's EVF). I find that these two cameras give me almost everything I need.
I guess my point is that if you have a nice 35mm lens, then the summicron is a luxury (a different flavor). On the other hand, the X100 can add things to your set-up that the M9 doesn't offer.
That said, Summicrons just keep going up and up in price, so time may be of the essense.
Edit: You have the pre-ASPH summilux? Forget the summicron and get the X100.

Odd question. If you already have an M9, why buy an admittedly rather nice AF point and shoot? The only reason I can imagine in because you don't like the Leica.
Mind you, I already have the last-generation Summilux on my M9. Sold the Summicron years ago, because although it's better at f/2 and f/4, there's not much in it at f/5.6 and there's no contest at f/1.4.

+1 for the Summicron. It will probably hold its value, whereas the X100 will depreciate instantly when the X200 (or whatever it will be called) comes out.
BTW I do not mean to disparage any X100 owners, it definitely is a nice camera. But in my mind it is only a matter of time before a newer and 'better' model comes out. And the Leica? Well, a Summicron is a summicron. The trend on Leica glass is 'up', and as they say in investment circles, 'the trend is your friend'.
Then again, looking at appreciation / depreciation is only one aspect of using a camera, there are many other reasons why people acquire or dispose of their gear.

I agree with jsrockit which is why I went out and bought x100 for a second time. Is the perfect add on for the M9 in my opinion. It's strengths mirror the the M9's weaknesses. And I am much happier taking x100 into social situations than my M9. I don 't drink any more but am always worried when my friends who do start waving the arms around when my M9 is on the table. X100 is in my jacket pocket.

Just picked up a 35 cron a few days ago. I traded one for a noctilux a few months back, stupid and good...but I always missed it.
I contemplated picking up a X100 when I had a M8 but as soon as I got an M9, no contest. Why the Hell would I want that? I already carry my M with me everywhere. I can shoot everywhere I can see already with my noctilux and in most places with the 35 cron. Yeah the X100 is "cool" but now I am more interested in a Nex that a family member has so I can put my leica lenses on it.
I won't harp on the depreciation stuff to much but the X100 already had its glory days. They are pretty much over, as far as price is concerned. The only way you can really make out on those is if you buy right. The leica stuff simply holds or appreciates.

I have the X100, and I would much rather have the M9 and the 35 Summicron. I really like the X100, but if someone offered to trade me it for an M8 even (and I had the funds to buy another lens) I would do it in a heartbeat.
