Vacation: Which camera & lens will/did you take

We're off to Dallas for a few days to go to the Fair with some French friends who are visiting there for a month. I'll take the rf kit, M3 w/Summaron 35/2.8 and Contax IIIa with 50/1.5 Sonnar. Bunch of Kodak Gold 200 and some Tri-X.

hi

i am new to posting on this forum, though i have enjoyed monitoring it for some time. on a recent trip to florida my main goal was light weight versatility. i took a konica tc-x with hexanon ar 24mm, 40mm and 85mm. those lenses also can be adapted to my ep2, which i also brought along, as well as a zeiss ikon nettar 6x9 folder. i could fit all three in a small camera bag, or just bring one or the other for fast street shooting.

i so enjoy these hexanon lenses, and the 40/1.8 coupled with the all plastic tc-x, presents what might be the lightest street shooting rig of all time. i was very happy with the images, taken with ektar 100 qnd elite chrome 100, using provia on the zeiss for beach landscapes and sunsets.

Hey, rbelyell...

Where are you located?

hi dave!

i live in the catskill mtns in upstate ny, on a quiet rural road abutting a trout stream, which provides me endless and constant inspiration.

i do also shoot rf, though you couldnt tell from the above post. i have a rollei 35rf, kodak retina iii and iv, mamiya universal, contax T, and a fed 5. my rf lenses are jupiter 12, leica summarit 50/1.4, cv color heliar 75/2.5, zeiss 135/4 and a jupiter 50/2 and all the schneider retina lenses.

this is a wonderful forum and i have learned a great deal over the last year or so that ive been a member. i thought this was a good thread to say hi because imo these lovely konica cameras and lenses are often overlooked or ignored, and they really are perfect travel gear brcause of their compactness and light weight. yet the lens quality is outstanding and affordable. that 3lens rig with camera cost me under $350 total! so i actually felt i had something to add!

Cool, Tony! Next time you're down this way, you have to give us a shout when you are coming through Atlanta...got some great RFF'ers here that you need to get to know!

BTW, that trout fishing sounds mighty fine... just can't find anyone here to go trout fishing with, so I am stuck with lake fishing with three flyrods.:p

and the same to you dave if you find yourself up north! i could use a fishing partner! and i'm sure a picture of me trying to untangle my line from a low hanging tree would net you some kind of photo award!:)

All Over the Map

All Over the Map

I have done a lot of travel this year and changed the kit each time. In March, I spent 10 days in Istanbul with a 500 CM and Leica Digilux 5. I only shot one roll with the blad as I was new to both cameras and the Lux5 was ridiculously simple to use.

In June, my family went to Iceland and Great Britain. I carried a Leica R6.2 and the Digilux 5. I used both cameras equally.

Next month, I am off to Nepal for 3 weeks followed by Thailand and Cambodia. For sure the new Fuji X100 and trying to decide if I want to tote a second camera. So it might be the Digilux 5 but thinking the M2 with 21/50/90 to compliment the 35 on the X100. Or I may just travel light with the X100. Traveling with only one camera does not bother me but traveling without film would be a first.

Upcoming 9 day trip in September will include a MP/35 Lux, & M9/50 Lux, with a 24 Elmar and 75 Cron.

. . . . . update from trip and reminder for next trip, just bring the two bodies with a lens on each. Quite happy with the 35 & 50.

Now will just have to see how much memory I have when it is time to pack for the next vacation . . . . .

This is always most difficult to decide for me

This time (short trip to Großglockner and Southern Tyrolia) my Rolleiflex was the only camera I took, together with a few rolls of Fujichrome Provia 100F

Summer holidays this year took M6,M8,28mm ZM 2.8,50mm Summicron. Mainly shot Tri-X 400, except for half a roll of Sensia 100 which was in the camera already.

Off to Paris soon and will definitely bring M6,28 and 50mm. Can't decide whether to bring M8,M3 or Rolleiflex. Film wise going to bring TriX 400 anyway, and then either digital and Portra 400. My head says M8, my heart says Rolleiflex and Portra 400 (maybe pushed to 1600).

Heading off to Maine.
The bag will have:
Fuji X100
Nikon D700
CV 20/3.5
Nikkor 58/1.4
and probably the Nikon 80-200/2.8 AF

Heading to Istanbul soon. Contax II with 21, 35, 50 and 85mm lenses. NEX 5 with kit lens and adapter to allow use of Contax lenses.

Well, this year I am pretty much vacation-less, but last summer it was 12 days in south Spain with Mamiya 6, Fuji Silvi (compact with 24-50 zoom) and it was a good combination. But I could imagine to replace the Mamiya with a Rolleiflex and the Silvi with a compact digital camera (the second part I already did, actually - Ricoh GRDIII).
