I always thought it odd that we view bare-chested men differently than we do bare-chested women. It kind of makes you wonder if you make a provocative portrait of a guy without a shirt, if it should be tagged "mature".

I bet the school kids you are concerned about have seen far more graphic porn on the internet than anything than anything that might 'pop up' on this site.

Thanks for the tip, Rover. I had completely forgotten that.
That said, I am less concerned with morality than Paul is, BUT...
realize that I hesitate to open the gallery while I'm at school for fear
of what might pop up .. or out... in front of students.

If I understand correctly, for the filter to work, a photo must be tagged by the poster. If you have the filter on, you won't see it in the gallery (even as a thumbnail) or in a thread. But what would a person do if a photo, in their opinion, is not tagged properly by the poster? Is there a feature, or it could be added, so a member could tick a box next to a thumbnail in the gallery or photo that shows up in a thread, so that photo that makes it past the filter will not show again for that member. This would not prevent members from running across something he/she finds offensive, but would allow that member from having that image come up again.

I don't know that this proves anything... maybe you should examine your own views on nudity and sex before questioning others.
to those who say nude photos are not sexual in themselves, let me offer this: over at APUG, the view count tells an interesting story: any nude shot of a woman will quickly draw 200-400 views when an excellent landscape shot, for example, on the same page will draw 40-80 views.

I just finished with class (ending at 9 PM makes for a very long day) and that still could make me laugh! Thanks!
Luckily my computer faces away from the door....

I've deduced that this has to be one of the offending 'cheesecake' photos...Do you (the offended) believe that this should be labelled 'mature content'? Is it really that offensive? Is it demeaning women?
I'm not trying to stir the pot here, I'm just after some answers and I'm not getting any. I'm seriously dumbfounded at the moment.
For the record...I haven't exploited any 'young women' in my photographs. All my so called 'cheesecake' photos in my gallery are just some impromptu shots of my 48 yr old wife of 27 years.
I find this thread so dissappointing...

That would not be rated "mature content" in 1950 .
Nice shot!

I hear there are beaches where you camera doesn't have to wear a case.the most ogled thread on RFF seems to be the Let's See Your Leica M at well over a million views. Based on that, I'm going to keep a half-case on my cameras in the interest of modesty.

no, astro8, that is not offensive at all. a lot of what i would call cheesecakish shots are standard fare in fashion magazines, even on billboards.
gshybrid, i think my view of nudity is well established by my starting of this thread. i am quite content with my view. some here are content with my view; others are not; others do not care one way or another.
i do understand this is a privately owned site with rules. the rules are the rules. i did not ask to break them or modify them. i only asked if there were a way to avoid the stated content. i have a way in the mature material check box.
thanks again, rover.

I would not worry one bit if I were you. Of the many thousands of members this forum has, I bet only a couple dozen will turn on the mature content filter. It's probably best to just click the mature content box on anything that you would not want a 7 year old boy to see. Better to err on the conservative side for those who might be offended. This is only my opinion of course. Just remember in America there are no nude or topless public beaches or other places for women. This is a land of confused and prudish attitude towards the human body. You are down under where things are more liberal by comparison when it comes to this topic. I understand the astonishment and confusion you express.
PS I'm not suggesting by any means that those using the mature filter be compared to 7 yo boys !!

Very nice shot!
You should not be checking it as mature content...
I prefer my kids to see nice shot of a naked body than an ugly shot of whatever

Doesn't even have to be nekkid ladies. My three most-viewed Flickr shots (excluding detail shots of a M1 Garand I used to own that seem to still get passed around gun forums) all feature a female friend or my female roommate. Attractive women, but fully clothed and not doing anything remotely erotic (unless you count playing with a M4 as erotic in one instance). It seems borderline creepy, but that's the Internet for you.

You may find this interesting, considering that a lot of my photos are of women. My fan base seems to be young women and old men.... those 35-44 yr old women really hate me.

My wife would like to see some balance here...very few male `cheesecakes'.

What Frank-S said back on page 3 ...
... one observation, the standard that are being proposed seem to go beyond the conventions of the society they are coming from, judging by my experiences of the US, which I find odd
