Hey guys,
Just made this new camera strap out of a 6ft. length of rope. Cost me $2.50. I think the knots will hold but I guess only time will tell.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Won't this be rough on your neck or wrist? Looks nice though.

I don't know why it reminds me boat anchor..

I bought nylon rope which is actually quite soft. You have a good point though, but I figured for 2.50 it was worth a try.

wouldn't it be simpler/neater to loop the rope through the rings and just tie it at the one end (behind the neck part)?

Wow. I didn't even think of that. Good idea. I'll probably give that a shot at some point.

When I picked up a strapless Konica SLR in Switzerland (on holiday), I got some shoelaces on the local market and knotted myself a strap from those.
Gotta say, the novelty wore off quite fast... But it did what it had to for as long as it needed to.

Buy a dog leash at the dollar store and have someone sew loops on the end once you figure out the length. Rope is too expensive.

The knots you tied are very cool, but maybe a bit overpowering (if aesthetics matter). I think it will cut on your neck after a while though. A flatter strap would lay nicer on the skin i think. Maybe add a velcro'd pad to the neck area?
Otherwise, same idea but with leather will maybe be more comfortable

I like it, you need one for the Lomography La Sardina (fish can camera). It would be quite fitting

It looks nice when the white is clean.
But I imagine after using this for a month or so, the rope will pick up dirt and start to look used.
I think one of the reasons leather is so popular for this purpose is because dirt-full leather looks not that different than dirt-less leather

So I've been using this for about a week and here's my analysis.
Pros:
1) I love how it looks.
2) Super cheap.
3) Doesn't seem to wear away the paint of the camera.
Cons:
1) As expected, it's very rough on my neck.
2) The knots as is stick out quite a bit and make it a little awkward to use the camera.
I decided to fork out the $40 and get a Gordy strap.

you should tight up the whole camera the way like Araki tight up women. red rope would look great with a black body.

How do I add a picture of my home made camera strap?

$2.50 was a good price, but the dollar bin at my local camera shop would have netted you two camera straps and 2 quarters change.
