Hey guys,

Just made this new camera strap out of a 6ft. length of rope. Cost me $2.50. I think the knots will hold but I guess only time will tell.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Buy a dog leash at the dollar store and have someone sew loops on the end once you figure out the length. Rope is too expensive.

The knots you tied are very cool, but maybe a bit overpowering (if aesthetics matter). I think it will cut on your neck after a while though. A flatter strap would lay nicer on the skin i think. Maybe add a velcro'd pad to the neck area?

Otherwise, same idea but with leather will maybe be more comfortable

It looks nice when the white is clean.
But I imagine after using this for a month or so, the rope will pick up dirt and start to look used.

I think one of the reasons leather is so popular for this purpose is because dirt-full leather looks not that different than dirt-less leather 🙂

So I've been using this for about a week and here's my analysis.

Pros:
1) I love how it looks.
2) Super cheap.
3) Doesn't seem to wear away the paint of the camera.

Cons:
1) As expected, it's very rough on my neck.
2) The knots as is stick out quite a bit and make it a little awkward to use the camera.

I decided to fork out the $40 and get a Gordy strap.

$2.50 was a good price, but the dollar bin at my local camera shop would have netted you two camera straps and 2 quarters change.

Leather was free from local leather shop scrap bin, other parts were approximately $2.00
