Leica Event, May 10 Starts....

Flash!!! The first firmware update 1.001 has been announced!

Film emulation modes have been extended as to include "Salgado", "Cartier-Bresson", "Ansel Adams", "D76", "Microphen", "Casablanca", "Gone with the Wind" and "Charlie Chaplin" modes.

I am imagining . . . . who is it that can drop $15,000USD on a camera and lens and is then actually going to put on some worker-bee clothes and scour the alleys and streets for images that resemble what someone created 60 years ago with a mechanical camera and a roll film?

Haha, I do not even believe that this is being done. I think most buyers will just take happy snaps, just as everyone else. On the other hand I guess the camera may be quite attractive for professionals working in the photo-journalistic genre. It seems to be not only a toy but actually also a tool. We will see.

in the samples I can't see anything that could'n be possible with my m9

on the second pic in dpreview there's a blown highlight on the hand of the girl... not a good advertising for a camera that should have an incredible dynamic range...

Not just a blown highlight - the image looks strange, like heavily post-procesed.

I don't "do" digital, is it just me?

Well, I have immensely enjoyed this day! Great to see how much this thread has been shared by so many!

I can only say for our visitors, come back soon as we are a great community and love having you here!

IMO, the most interesting thing about what this Leica event has shown us is what they have NOT shown us.... there is more to this than meets the eye if you go back and read Thorsten's M10 review again. All kinds of things that will be revealed in time.

Can't wait for Photokina!:D

Well, I can't call the day a letdown: I have an M9, which I want more than either of the cameras that were announced, so yay me! And I've never bought a new Leica lens, so the astronomical price of the new Summicron also doesn't really matter: yay me again!

If I were made of money, the M9M would be a nice thing to get. But I'm not, and it's not a thing that will tug at my heart, so this is probably the best outcome I could hope for.

The M10 at Photokina, that could cause me some gas, I fear....

Yes, yay me, too! I can only afford used Leicas so prices don't scare me!!!:D

And, they upload straight to Instagram!!

I do not have a digital camera, and thought that if my ship ever comes in (it's still puttering in the harbor) this could be the thing for me.

I have looked at most of the sample photos in dpreview. I have to say that from my perspective, the tones look like those of failed experiments I have had with film. Are those images approved by Leica? Are the renderings simply bad?

At the moment I will hold tight and treasure my M3 and ca. 1960 Summicron and SuperAngulon, which all together cost a fraction of just the M-M body!

So the guy who's been selling a black paint Summicron at GetDPI just pumped the price up from $6,500 to $7,495 "based on new Summmicron ASPH pricing".

Just like the stock market...it will soon turn into a mess.

I have no issue with the Monochrom M9... but on all other fronts, Leica's gone mad! :) The way I see it... I'm lucky. They announced three products I don't want. :)

Bingo.....

Those who want the B&W M9, go for it - it's priced relatively closely to their other M digital bodies - I would really like to know who's making the sensor AND to see high ISO samples - that's going to be interesting.

The rest of the stuff - I seriously had to stop and catch my breath from laughing so hard.

Cheers,
Dave
