WIde angle point and shoot

I've been looking aroung and have been unsuccesful. Is there a quality point and shoot film camera with a wide lens. Wide as in wider then 28mm 21 or below. I know the ricoh grdr21 is awesome but I could buy another leica body for the price on ebay. Any suggestions? cheap would be nice.

Digital or film? If film, then fully AE is OK or you need control aver aperture or speed? That would help to cut off many many unnecessary options.

Panasonic makes some good 24mm equivalents.

Film definitely, some control would be nice, bu I'd consider complete ae. A good sharp lens is key.

Until you mentioned "cheap" I thought immediately Contax G + 21mm. But then you would get one of the best - if not THE best - 21mm there is, P&S or not.

There is the Fuji Silvi (also called f2.8) with 25-50 zoom lens. I had the camera and it was producing rather nice pictures. Also the metering worked fine, Just the AF was on the slow side. at 25mm the lens speed is f/2.8

In the digital world you could get a Ricoh GRDIV and put the coverer on it and then you get 21mm field of view. Based on the photos I have seen the converter is of good quality and does not degrade the IQ.

But what about the Bessa L (no rangefinder) with a Skopar 21/4.5 or even Heliar 15/4.5 (+ viewfinder of course)? Not much of focusing needed with lenses that wide.

Ultra wide fixed lens point and shoot camera? Don't think there is enough demand for anyone to make such a model. As an aside you can purchase a Slim Devil with a 22mm, 2 element f11 lens for $30 from Freestyle Photo. Otherwise I think you could put together a Voigtlander R4A and 21mm f4 Skopar.....for only $1220.....not cheap but it would be a quality wide angle point & shoot.

Konica Offroad 28, prime lens of 8 elements and proper size/grip.

I put a 15mm CV lens and viewfinder on a Zeiss Ikon SW. That works well for me.

Assuming P&S digital, the S100 has 24mm equiv. and works quite well.

I don't know what a CASIO EX-TR150 is, but it goes to 21mm.

I'do go for that in a flash! Only, that lens is not widely available, and it's not exactly cheap. (I'm just looking at the only one on offer on eBay, they're asking ~$500 for it. Used, of course).

Interesting. The 20mm f/4 is a great lens. Recent eBay sales were at $200-$250.

Sometimes I even amaze myself. Fujifilm Natura with 24mm/f:1.9 lens. What's not to like?

As for the Nikon SLR+20mm Nikkor lens option...
Forget ebay. Shop at the Nikon Cafe. Buy from real photographers. You might even save a few greenbacks.

By the way, for most mortals like us, 24mm is plenty wide. YMMV.

Digital: Panasonic LX5, with a 24-90mm equiv zoom which opens to F2 at 24mm (or its more expensive Leica D-Lux 5 twin).

Film: Most PS film cameras will have a 35 or 38 mm lens. Nikon has a 28mm PS film.

Ultrawides in the 20-25mm range have always been expensive and rare on fixed lens cameras. A Leica M or CL film body with Voigtländer 21mm f/4 is reasonably priced and performs very well.
