New York NYC August Meet-Up

speaking of which, try to find a chrome m2 or m4 (self timer) with good and sharp collapsible 50 and new vc meter, under 1000, that would be my last film gear.

Mervyn,

Like you I have two great M-bodies, but my third Leica body is a black paint Leica II (Model D) LTM. Eventually I will have it serviced by Sherry and will mount my 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM on it. I find that I can effectively use my Zeiss 25/28 VF'er even though it does not have framelines. Its a nice small rig and rather minimalist.

I intend on learning how to shoot meterless. I'm cool with not having the slow shutter speeds. Like I said a small, meterless, minimal camera with a great-great lens for B&W.

once you own the top gears, it is hard to change habits to switch cameras, monochrome next?

If I was going to use film seriously, it would be a M6 TTL or MP. It's not happening though.

John, way to go ... long live M6 TTL. New MPs looks great but it bugs me a bit when I use it with the light meter indicators through the viewfinder. Unlike M7, the shutter speed dial turns the other way. It's not intuitive for the way that I use it. So, M6 TTL wins in my mind.

John, we are used to the digital Ms, so old school Ms seem to work the opposite way for us now. Right?

I have 2 (two) packs of FujiFilm FP-3000B45 Super Speedy. (Note the "45" on name.) I got these by mistake, and they are to large to fit my Instant film holders. Can any one use them? If so I will bring them to the meet.

Count me in for the 26th. Might bring along the ersatz-view-camera (Olympus OM-2n). And maybe a few new prints.

I'm going all analog and will bring my unused digital stopwatch to give away along with a new battery. I have a wonderful analog stop watch that I always use for developing.

Somehow we have to figure out a contest, but as always I will suggest enforcement of the old rule: No Biting. LOL.

Cal

Man I really enjoyed my trip to NYC last time meeting you guys. Really hope I can make another meet sometime.

Always a good time, lots of laughs, and of course lots of gear.

You remember my F3P rig with motor drive? Now that is a petite rig when compared to my Pentax 67II with grip. Also put about an inch girth on my chest, and my right arm is now grossly overdeveloped from carrying the Pentax.

When you coming back to NYC?

Cal

I'm reminded about "Fashion Night Out." This year its September 6th. Last year John got some great shots doing High ISO Digital and I got skunked being an old analog guy trying to do available light.

This year will be different because I have the Pentax 67II with AE Prism and a TTL flash.

Cal

This time might be the last stand of the Canon 5d.

John you are crazy, but that's why you're my friend. LOL.

Anyways I don't think I'll get skunked again this year. Flash and TTL metering is my friend. Also have 3 rolls of Fuji slide film (50 ISO) in 220. Pretty sure that I'll have the brightest flash and will be blinding the general public. Oh-well.

Anyways my evil Pentax is the best tool for the job.

I missed last year's and can't believe that I am going to miss it again this year due to work related travel.

Cal - I believe that I saw you from across the street while walking down the Lex Ave. on Sunday afternoon. It's a bit far, but probably the first time seeing you w/o camera with you (or you hid it well).

John

If I was with John I had 2 Leicas in a leather Louis Vitton bag.

If not with John I was shopping with my little old lady.

See you Sunday.

Cal

Yep, you were shopping! I have the 8x10 contact print from the negative for you on Sunday.

Awesome.

Backstory: I had the honor of being a model, and John is one of 40 Beta testers of this new 8x10 Polaroid film now made by the Impossible Project. Between my stylist (girlfriend) and John I cleaned up rather nicely sporting a grey pinstripe Paul Smith suit and Paul Smith laser engraved shoes.

Anyways, both John and I used Richard Avedon as a source of inspiration. Amazingly John nailed the shot on the first take.
