New York NYC August Meet-Up

Maybe the better question is how much did you play with it while sitting on the couch at home? :D

I'm good a destroying and breaking things. John knows me well, although I like my gear to be minty, my gear often gets hammered through use. Did a lot of practicing to get use to the mirror slap and to figure out the ergonomics.

If I were in the Olympics I would win the Gold Metal in holding a Pentax 67II steady.

Just ask John: I'm crazy. Also you haven't seen me shoot a lot of film yet. This weekend I'll be binging on 135. Its been a while, since I kinda went full immersion into MF for a while.

:eek::eek::eek: Thats crazy!! how many rolls of film have you run through that thing??

Over the past two months about a hundred. Some of that was 220 also. Anyway who's counting? I just try to shoot as much film as possible. Hopefully I get a few great pictures.

Also know that I'm beginning to shoot every day again. To day I emptied my Wetzlar M6 while walking on my way to work. Too bad I forgot to bring some extra film. Lots of stuff going on with the Second Avenue Subway.

Yesterday got some wonderful street shots of the tractor trailer driver on Second Ave. He was really cool and allowed me to get in about half a dozen quick shots with my Wetzlar M6 with a 28 Cron. Second Avenue is kind of a disaster area.

That's not unreasonable at all. 1000+ images? I'm sure I did a lot more in digital within that same timeframe... I better be quiet before the stat police come after me and my digital ways.

Perhaps that's why I am thinking about a M9M. Nothing like being a greedy American. Interesting that some say that the files look like or remind people of Arcos. Too clean for some, but I like it. I try to make Tri-X to look like Arcos. Also you know when I shoot I'm thinking a big print.

For me if you want to become a better photographer you have to shoot a lot. Lately though, because I've been shooting MF, its been a lot less shots than if I was shooting 135. Limited shots on a roll and reloading also limit and curb the amount of film throughput. I'm sure I will shoot many more frames in 135 than in 120 over any given time.

Hmmm. M9M... The only lens I would have to sell that I might miss is the Noct-Nikkor, that would mean my Nikon F3P would not anymore be a nightstalker, and that for 35 mm I would be Leica-Centric, but high ISO digital on a M9M kinda trumps lens speed. Also let's see how steady I can hold a Leica. I really liked the feel and balance of your M9, the only thing I need is a grip. LOL.

Hmm looks like i'll be the only person shooting a big camera. Maybe I should bring my M4 too :bang:

I'll be shooting a Wetzlar M6 with a wide. Not sure if John will like the flash of red I added. I used a red grease pencil to fill the Leica engravings on the front of the camera.

Also for exercise I might bring out the Nikon F3P with motor drive. A very quiet camera when compared to the Pentax. LOL.

Ideally it would be better to carry just two Leicas rigged with a 28 and a fifty.

John's got an M8 now....?????? Whats going on..

We are going to reach December, 2012 in just a few months. By then, the unthinkable may have happened. The world turned upside down, just like the Mayan calendar "predicted"...

John will have been inspired by Cal shooting over 20,000 feet of film recently and wind up with an M3 and 50mm. Cal will have caught severe digital GAS and will sell most of his film gear to get an M Monocrom. Needing to be able to shoot color as well, He'll back up the MM with an M9.

Just a bit of fun conjecture.

koni

I will try to make it.
Steve, how do you like Koni omega so far?

I had a Koni-Omega in the early '70's which was stolen. Later I picked up a couple of others in the late '80's and used them again. I always liked them because of the negative size, quality of the lenses, and affordability. The negatives produced great 16"x20" prints, and smaller, of course. The reason I first got one was because I was not pleased with the 16" x 20" and 20x24 print resolution from 35mm negs.

When scanned, the files come out at about 60megs. That's not bad for less than a $150. I have an 18"x24" iris print of the California Cost, north of Bodega Bay, that I shot in the '90's
Attached are a couple of test shots from my first roll on the latest one.

Also a Fuji 6X45 GS645s

Also a Fuji 6X45 GS645s

I will also bring a Fuji 6X45 GS645s with a wide 60mm F4 lens.

I am thinking of selling this, since I got the Koni. Much small and lighter for street and landscape, but I need something like the Koni for portraits.

See an example of a landscape.

Steve,

I'm right there with you. If you want big prints medium format offers more resolution and wider tonality.

But I still love blasting away in 135 and carrying two cameras so I don't have to change lenses. Also with MF I'm always loading cameras and missing shots.

I think you'd agree that digital suits my style of photography Cal.

I agree that your gear makes a lot of sense.

The question that needs to be answered is "are you crazy like me?"

I say yes for two reasons: you hang out and shoot with me all the time; and because you feel passionate about your work. LOL.
