New Hoods For the Nikkor 35mm f2.5

Hi all,
Well I ordered some hoods off ebay for the Nikkor I have, will have to add
pictures when I get them all, but I did get a B&W 43mm MC Skylight filter
for it and it fits real nice. Oh one more thing I ordered a new to me digital
camera (no not a Leica M8 or M9) but a Nikon D200, I know it's old but
so is my Canon 5d that I use. It should be here by Friday, it's just that I'm
hearing great things about the new lenses they have and I do have a
20mm f2.8 Nikkor I picked up for $40.00 at a Flea Market in mint condition
so I use that with it, if it works out I'll sell the Canon and lenses I have
we'll see.

Well here they are two hoods I have found and used for my
Nikkor 35mm f2.5 lens, made really nice and holds and screws
in well. Oh and both purchased on ebay.

the smaller compact one on the left works great, and the
larger one on the right works well just a bit larger and
looks like the original somewhat.

On the W-Nikkor-C 35/2.5 you can mount the very nice CNC-made copies of the Leitz 12585 hood without the least bit of vignetting problem.

The tilted-vented design is very useful when you use that lens on a S3 camera (less VF blanking out).

IMO this is the very best aftermarket hood you can use on this lens.

And it's the perfect hood for the Nikkor-S-C 50/1.4 and the Millenium Nikkor 50/1.4 as well.

Cherry on the cake it fits the W-Nikkor-C 35/1.8 too (but then don't use any 43mm filter between the hood and the lens or it will vignette).

But, again : no vignetting with the W-Nikkor-C 35/2.5 (even with a 43mm screw-in filter installed).

Plenty of them around for less than $5. Buying a set of several will get you done for a while.
 
Any keywords you can give me for searching for the Leitz copy hoods?

I have a 35/2.5 as well, and would love me a little vented hood.
 
There all over ebay, I just go to Lenses and accessory's and hit lens hoods
and there's ton's there just click in 43mm lens hoods.

Keep in mind that vintage RF Nikkors have a filter thread pitch of 0.50mm whereas most filters and screw-in hoods these days have a thread pitch of 0.75mm. That's probably why some hoods don't fit as "good" as they should.

My Chinese tilted-vented hoods all fit absolutely perfectly on any of my vintage RF Nikkors. I can screw them in full with no problem.

Actually what mustn't be done is fitting a 0.50mm thread pitch hood/filter onto a 0.75mm thread pitch lens (great risk of getting them stuck altogether permanently).
 
I suspect many recent Chinese or even Japanese filters and hoods to have a thread pitch between 0.5mm and 0.7mm.

So if you get one with an "average" thread pitch, fitting it on a vintage 0.5mm threads pitch lens having somehow worn threads (from having received several filters in the past) generally works flawlessly.

But this is another question if you get one close to 0.8mm and if you try to fit it on a lens on which no filter or hood got mounted ever.

The only recent accessory which I couldn't screw in full onto a vintage RF Nikkor was a high-end 43mm B+W F-PRO UV filter, so its threads were probably very close to a real 0.75mm pitch.

That's why I get two of each, there's always a slight difference
in the thread and one always fit's different than the other.
